Who doesn't remember this fantastic album cover from the 1960's? If you were a young pre-teen like myself, you certainly couldn't forget it!

Well, the Yummy young lady wearing the delicious outfit is a certain Dolores Erickson and - fortunately - she is still alive.

In fact, she has her own website:

whippedcreamlady.com (http://www.whippedcreamlady.com/)

If you admired the lovely Dolores, as I did, then a visit to her webpage ( out of respect ) is certainly in order.

Boy, so do I. Just think, if the PMRC had existed back then, our 1960s pre-adolescence might have been just a little less sweet. I just saw Burt Bacharach in concert this past Saturday night. He wrote what may have been Herb Alpert's biggest hit - "This Guy's in Love With You" and performed it live on stage with a 50 piece orchestra. Hard to beat Alpert, Bacharach, and the lovely Miss Erickson for pure 1960s swingin' sexuality with a genuine touch of class. "What's New Pussycat" indeed!

And who can forget Herb Alpert's pulse-pounding anthem for the original James Bond flick, "Casino Royale."

I did not make that up.

Yes it leaned against the huge wooden sarcophagus of a stereo console on the floor of my living room and stared at me when I was 9.

I may still have that one around here somewhere...

When I was a kid (yeah, like I'm an adult now) I must have played all our Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass albums until they were worn out, using them as background music while I was building models. I don't remember if my parents bought them because they liked them or if they bought them for me thinking I'd like them; regardless, I still have a warped fondness for those songs.

My fondness for the "Whipped Cream" album cover goes without saying. ;)

Before my time. Unfortunately, when I was growing up the songs they played had just awesome lyrics... like this:

I didn't know what love wuz
Until you got to the back of our tour bus
Good thing I made it back there in time
Before our guitarist got his hands across your state line

:freak:

I may be getting a few words wrong here or there, but frankly, who cares?

You didn’t know what rock n’ roll was
Until you met a drummer on a greyhound bus
I got there in the nick of time
Before he got his hands across your state line

Penned by a songwriter equal to Bacharach in some measure - Sir Ian Hunter! El Gato, please tell me it's the Ian Hunter recording of this song youf fell in love with - not the abysmal insult/imitation by Great White. Please! Please!!!

Hey! I have all of Herb Alperts' albums so be gentle. I was 12 when Whipped Cream was released and thought it was the best album cover ever. She has her own site? Man, the internet rules!

I didn't say I fell in love with the song. I meant to say that songs I grew up with appear to pale in comparison.

Besides, I was quoting the Great White version. :freak:

Oh, I don't know ....

What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
Pussycat, Pussycat
I've got flowers
And lots of hours
To spend with you.
So go and powder your cute little pussycat nose!
Pussycat, Pussycat
I love you
Yes, I do!
You and your pussycat nose!
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
Pussycat, Pussycat
You're so thrilling
And I'm so willing
To care for you.
So go and make up your cute little pussycat face!
Pussycat, Pussycat
I love you
Yes, I do!
You and your pussycat face!
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
Pussycat, Pussycat
You're delicious
And if my wishes
Can all come true
I'll soon be kissing your sweet little pussycat lips!
Pussycat, Pussycat
I love you
Yes, I do!
You and your pussycat lips!
You and your pussycat eyes!
You and your pussycat nose! ;)

.... and if I may, let me suggest the Ian Hunter version of "Once Bitten, Twice Shy". It blows Great White's version out of the water. Needless to say, I'm a big fan.

My, my and to think they all made a stink when you could see a few pubes out of a bikini bottom on some album in the 70's or 80's. The Cars or Frank Zappa, I think.

Ah, yes, What's New, Pussycat? Damn silly movie, but with hot ’60s babes Ursula Andress, Capucine and Paula Prentiss, who was complaining?

I remember when it seemed as if just about every pop ballad of the genre we now call "adult-contemporary" was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David and sung by Dionne Warwicke. It looked like Messrs. Bacharach and David could do no wrong — until they scored that godawful 1970s musical remake of Lost Horizon.

BTW, I always thought Spandau Ballet's 1990 hit "True" had a lot of Bacharach feel to it.

Bacharach has penned 48 Top 10 Hits (most with David). Bacharach must have performed at least 30 of them in concert. My wife, who is almost a decade younger than me, kept repeating; "Oh, he wrote that song too?"

"True" by Spandau Ballet was from 1983. If it's a song from 1990 that you're thinking of, it might be PM Dawn's "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss", which sampled "True". I think came out in the early 1990s, but I can't recall the exact year.

I love the Elvis Costello/Bacharach stuff too.

Somehow I always thought of this as a Bacharach free zone. Oh, well.

Anyway, I too remember that album cover and when I moved out of my parents house I took it, their Vaugh Meader First Family album, and their Nancy Sinatra's "Boots" album (love that cover too, hot, hot, hot). I still have 'em today, but sadly no turntable to spin 'em on. I recently bought Herb Alpert's "best of" on CD and I highly recommend it.

I bought some top quality audio stuff at a pawn shop to digitize my albums. Sony turntable, Akai receiver, JVC amp and tuner. All top quality stuff from the old days. 80 bucks!

Nevertheless, Go Go Boots were all the rage in the late 60's and early 70's! My Mom and Sisters wore 'em!

... and then came Hot Pants!Which were a must-have fashion item for about six months — until they became the standard ’70s hooker uniform.

As for Nancy Sinatra — sure, she looked hot, but let's be realistic about her singing talent. If she had been born Nancy Smith or Nancy McGillicuddy or Nancy Schwartz, she would have been lucky to have a career selling insurance!

(Can anyone say "Tori Spelling"?)

Much as I would have not thrown Nancy out of bed, can you imagine having Frank as your girlfriend's father? Yikes!

Reminds me of Dan Hedeya's line in Clueless - "Kid, I got a shovel and a .45. Nobody'll miss ya."

There's an interesting movie with Tony Perkins with a modern retelling of the myth.
