View Full Version : Pick one 1:64 casting

Pick one casting that you think GreenLight needs to make and the reasons why you think it would sell.

I think a 1980-1981 Camaro Z/28 would be a great seller. These cars are gaining popularity every year amongst the collectors and nobody else makes a decent 1:64 version of the late gen II Camaro.

69 Chevelle- my father had one, and i believe it was one of the best selling Chevelles? My dad once said 'Ever notice how many 5 litre Mustangs are on the road? The 69 Chevelle was pretty much the same back then"

Besides, the only semi decent casting is the HW's 100%er, and it's been ages since they have used it.

'68-'70 Dodge Charger. Simply one of the best MUSCLE cars ever produced. But make it look realistic. :)

I'll second that one, Matt. I've always loved the Chevelles, too, and next to the '65, the '69 needs some 1:64 diecast representation. Hotwheels does make a pretty decent one, though.

My pick you have to be something out of the ordinary. I like Muscle Cars don't get me wrong, but how about cars that are not readily seen to often. I've got a list of several, but since I can only choose one. I am going to have to go with one of from Italy. I would like to see a Ferrari 288 GTO. It's one of my all time favorite cars and an under used casting. Why? It's the forefather to so a couple of other great Ferrari's. The F40 and the F50. While Mattel does make Ferrari's in 1:64th, the only versions that look "truly" good are those in 1:18th scale.

The 1970/71 Mercury Cyclone in all of its forms. The base Cyclone was ment to compete with the Road Runner , it was bare bones, bench seat, 4 speed with a 429 CJ. The GT was slightly more luxury oriented with more engine options, vinal roof available and the like. The Spoiler was the top drawer of Cyclones with special paint and stripping and ramair induction. Definately the High water mark for Mercury performance.

85-90 Trans Am,
Cause nobody makes this casting and there hasent ever been a casting of it. Years ago there were some cheep dimestore nockoffs of regular 3rd gen Birds but nothing with the detail of a GL or JL.

I would have to go with a 1968 Mustang GT Cobra Jet 428. JL has done a '68 Mustang GT.....but it isn't very good.

My first choice is the 1979 Ford Mustang. If done correctly, it will sell to the legions of Mustang fans. It's also an Indy 500 pace car, another series Greenlight produces. I think this one is a no brainer.

1966 Chevrolet Impala SS. Johnny Lightning is doing a 65, GL has done a 68 and JL is scheduled to do one too. Jl has a 69 and GL is scheduled to do a 67 so, the 66 has been overlooked. And talk about being everywhere, each year between 65-69 Chevrolet sold over 1 million full-size cars so, everyone had one once or knew someone who did. My dad had a 68 Custom coupe and as a company car, a 69 Biscayne. I currently own a 67, 68 and 69 the 68 and 69 I have owned since the mid 70's when I began driving. The 67 was a recent addition. I at one time owned 2 65's but so far, come to think of it, I left out a 66 in my 1:1 collection........

I have always been partial to the 66 Chevelle. Greenlight did a decent job with the 68 Impala. Let's see if they can get the 66 Chevelle right. Of course, a sentimental car would be the 65 Dodge Coronet wagon...my dad's first brand new car (Coronet 440 wagon in fire engine red!)

I would like to say that I received my first 3 GL cars (thanks to Puppycat!) and that the quality of them is excellent! I will continue to buy GL if they can continue to produce such a good product. But I have looked at their upcoming MG 2 & 3 lineups and with the exception of the '71 Charger R/T, I don't know if there are any others that interest me.
How about some new ideas that nobody has done before?
My suggestions:
Steve McQeen's Mustang from 'Bullit"
1965 Pontiac Catalina 2+2
1965 Mercury Comet

Any other ideas? Maybe someone from Greenlight will be listening?

SORRY, THIS THREAD IS ALREADY BEING DONE! PLEASE INCLUDE MY COMMENTS WITH WYATT'S THREAD...

Ok, I see most of y'all are talkign American Muscle cars here. The one casting I would most like to see a die cast company do would be the 1992 - 1997 Subaru SVX. It's never been done before by ANYONE, and I'd like to have a little one to go along with my big one.

I would like to see a '65 Buick Gran Sport made. I don't think anyone ever made a '65 Buick Gran Sport and it's different like the '64 Olds 442. It's just my opinion, it's still a Muscle Car, and it would be a refreshing casting.

If it's a muscle car my choice would be a '73 Road Runner, I have never seen one in diecast.

If you're talking about full size sedans then I'm torn between a '73 Bel Air and a '69 Fury... hard choice.

Now if a full size wagon was to be made then the choice would be even harder, a '66 Polara wagon would be nice, so would a '76 Impala. The big sedans and the wagons are so scarce and hard to find I don't know when there will finally be some series dedicated to those 2 subject matters.

im going to have to agree with this post ....
i also like muscle cars dont get me wrong, but you can only do them so many times no matter how many color variations you get ....
my choice is for a ferrari gto or a dino ...
and i will not bring the usual "my dad had one" because that is not a good selling point ....
among other things the european-model market is one that not many companies have covered .... only one, perhaps two, companies cover that market and they're not quite accurate to the name ....

a good basis for the profitability of this type of diecast would be big names like GMP , AUTOart, Exoto ....
look what models they produce and look for how long they've been in business .....

Diecast does not revolve around american muscle cars http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/images/icons/icon11.gif

Mattel has an exlcusive contract with Ferrari. Hot Wheels and Matchbox are the only ones we're going to be seeing any time soon.

Kyosho and Maisto figured out a loophole- they sell 1/64 Ferrari kits, unassembled.
