Hi Everyone,

I have noticed that as a race day goes on and more and more compound is on the carpet the track tends to tighten up. What changes do you make as the day goes on to keep up with the changing track?

Thank You,
Tim

LOL no wonder I get better as the day goes on, I am always loose at the start.

No seriously though I just go with it maybe a tire or two changed out.

Some options:

Clean your tires with something like denatured alcohol or motor spray, will keep the tires from gumming up.

Put fresh tires on every couple of runs

Skim cut your tires to get to fresh foam

Take some tweak out

Add more pre load to the center shock spring or go to a harder spring

Go to harder RR tire

is it the norm for the track to become more "tight" as the day goes on? the answer to this will help me out alot cause my car does tend to get suckier every race :)

Eric,

Your first three suggests all relate to my tires. Do you feel that the track may not be "tightening up" it's just my own tires getting gummy?

Also do you have a rule of thumb as to how much to reduce the tweak from run to run. Like take out a 1/4 a turn from the first to the second qualifer, etc....?

Thank you,
Tim

Honestly, too many variables to answer that question easily.

Say a track is fairly new or doesnt have a nice groove per say weekly.
Then it's probably the track tightening up as more compound is laid down each round.

If the track and carpet are older and get a lot of traffic, then I would say its probably your tires gumming up.

Typically I like to keep my cars at a certain tweak level I feel it runs good at. So I will make a spring change if the tweak is getting to be large adjustments.

My HD cars always liked less tweak 11.5-12.5oz range.
RIP car liked alot of tweak sometimes 14oz+
The CW seems to be good at the 13.0-13.5 oz range.
So if I get out of my range I change the spring
