With so much stuff being released, I don't generally make a point of drawing attention to new announcements.
But in my travels around the internet today, I came across a few titles that absolutely floored me. This is stuff that I'd completely given up on.
Checking out the transcript from the Warner Brother's chat at hometheaterforum, I did a spit-take when WB said they would be releasing a gorgeous 16x9 transfer of QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE! Seems they are planning a Zsa Zsa Gabor tribute set and this gem is included. I thought that was a "when Hell freezes over" prospect. Also under consideration but not confirmed is THE GREEN SLIME.
Incredibley, it gets better. I visited dvddrive-in and found that Lions Gate has announced a second round of Arkoff films. Spit-take number two. Among the titles: THE DAY THE WORLD ENDED, THE SHE CREATURE and TEENAGE CAVEMAN. I would have sworn those were owned by the evil Susan Hart Nicholson Hofheintz and I assumed the prints would be allowed to rot before ever seeing a DVD release. I regret that these are in the hands of a mediocre company like LG who won't do a particularly good job...but the fact that they are being released helps numb the pain.
One final note. Warner Brothers has finally realized what everybody (except MGM) already knew: you can do 1.66:1 anamorphic transfers. They have announced NO MORE unenhanced 1.66 letterbox transfers. All future 1.66 films will be anamorphic.
