Had to share a good laugh.

I molded the Chat car yesterday, Now for those who do not know One of of our members sent me the body saying very plainly it needed to be repaired.
well repairs done I started filling it in and hairline cracks began to appear. ( So the Tyrell was not the only bad plastic., funny thing is both are 1976 Molds and both are in blue.) So I filled and sanded, polished and shone. finnally it was ready to be put in the box. Which went fine except I forgot to add a layer under it.. DOH.. So after 6 hours I took the box apart only to find the body was now surrounded about 95% by silicone..lol..So trusty exacto in hand I began to slowly release the car. As I held the mold in my hand, I could hear the screams of pain deep within the layers of white...The car came out finally, abit in 4 pieces.. lol.. BUT the good news is the mold came out awesome. I did a quick half pour last night to remove the floatsom often found in new molds and the cracks where not pickedup ( Guess I actually did sand them out right. ) I will pour a full body this aft and post up some pics of the undressed Body and the body that gave its life for this car. My Question does this happen often? Or ws it just using a broken car often cause this problem as my other two molds left the masters unmolested.
BTW thank you for reading so far. you have infinatly more patience then I do lol..

Hey Coach! I see you got lucky with your mold, eh? As you have shown, it is all in the prep work. Go about it half-arsed and you will see cracks, ect. I have a few resin cast bodies by an unknown maker (they only say "3rd" penned inside) that clearly show impatience and shortcuts. One is a yellow Dodge mid-engined pick-up. The caster clearly did not strip the master before casting as I can see the marks from the big paint chips out of some of the pannels. It would have been a beautiful, molded in color body if the caster had taken the time to strip or at minimum, smooth out the paint damage in his DC master. Don't be afraid to take the extra time in prep. The end results are worth it. RTV will even copy fingerprints and tampos left on a master. They will show up in every body you cast.

As far as a plastic body dissassembling itself, I have never run into that problem. RTV, when curing produces endothermic heat. ALOT of heat. That may have been a contributing factor to the failure of the cement you had chosen to use in your repair.

I am very excited about the chat car, Coach! I hope everything continues to go well for you. So you forgot a bit of clay at the bottom. Big deal. I bet you won't forget ever again, though, eh? LOL If you need to create a ridge around the opening of your mold, let me know and i will tell you how.

Keep casting, brother!

I would be able to participate in chat ANY DAY EXCEPT wednesday. Wednesday night is managers meeting at all Home Depots in my region, so I can't even transfer to another store and avoid them.
Could we vote on a different day, or another day for chat? say wed. and monday nights, or friday night?

I can switch to any other night. One is just as volatile as another when it comes to getting a call or crashing early. :) rr
