I have only had my comp about 1 month now( brand new one),and it has been losing time.
IM just confused, not sure what to think.
The 1st one I bought was no good, and now this one....
Any clues on what it could be and what I can do?

At what rate is it losing time? Can you give me some details on the system? Make, Model, what operating system is on it? This might be a matter of adjusting the time zone the operating system thinks it's in.

Is this brand new or a used one?

ITs a brand new one.
a Compaq SR1720NX
IT is losing time within 5 minutes or more..I have to reset the time daily,or I wind up being late picking up the kids from school.

Yech.. Probably the best thing to do is to set the Automatic time synchronization utilty on the system and let it argue with the system's internal clock.

On the bottom right hand corner of your screen you will see the clock, double click on it.
The date and time properties will open up. Select the tab labeled Internet Time. Check the box labeled "automatically synchronize with an internet time server" if it is already not checked. Then where the entry where it says server: type POOL.NTP.ORG then click UPDATE NOW. The status underneath that will change to say if it was successful in synching up and at what time. Your clock will be then synchronized up with the atomic clocks around the US.

Thank you! IT updated for me.

Now,will it keep the time?

It'll do it automaticially every week or so when it senses it's online. I just dunno why the crystal on the system wants to run like that. Probably a defect, but winXP's automatic clock update will help with this matter.

BFK, what you need to do is call Compaq and inform them of your problem. They will replace the board with a new one, probably with a onsite service.

Thanks!
The ONLY PITA thing,is that I have to send the comp out and it will take more than 30 days to get it back.. major PITA!!! :(
They dont have a Onsite service,I bought it from Staples
