Contact Competition Electronics for specs on the unit it may just be what you are looking for I use one to charge my legends packs. Never have used it on current race packs. Our legends rules keep us running 1600 mah stick packs max.

the unit is very old and does not have all the features you would want with todays current batteries.. they also get very hot, the giant heat sink on top could cook an egg.. and ive seen them cook packs. they were i belive the first charger ce made back in the late 80's when 1200's were hot... they do one of two things.. one keep charging till the pack explodes, or they dont charge a pack fully..

they should work on sub 3000 mah packs that dont require the exact charge the newer cells do..

will they wiork yes.. but it isnt worth all the hassle.. If you do decide to get one make sure it is the one that says linear on the face plate.. the other one is pulse, and doesnt charge as well..

I figured they were pretty old anyways, can a hi-iq charge a 3800, if its settings are changed?

NOT the ORIGINAL HIIQ... those had a non adjustable peak offset of like .05 or something close..

The super IQ series and newer>>>Super 2 Maxtec 3000 can do 3800's without a problem...they do not have a specific screen for 3800s but they have a NIMH screen that allows you to adjust peak detect and MAH limit..

its the one that you can open up and has 8 slots for individual cells. I need another one anyways and was wondering which of these would be my best bet. I need it to be able to read mah, ir, power lathe, motor run in, selectable charging settings. The ones i had in mind were the : Triton, DTX Ice, CE Pit Bull 3, LRP Pulasr 2, or something popular and similar.

You can find the orig. larger T-30's around on line for @ 100 bucks used usually.

I use one in the pits to run motors, lathes, and peak while my stealth charges for the the next round. An added bonus of the older Turbo 30 is that it can start dead shorted packs without false peaking, unlike the GFX or stealth which often false peak deadshorted packs even after lockout. It will fully charge all but the freshest of packs with out re-starting due to the Mah limit, Mine has survived over 10 years of weekly racing and never whimpers. If I were on a budget or starting up I wouldnt even consider another charger. It is simply bulletproof.

Well techincally the 8-slot version is the multiplexer for matching... if the unit has the multiplexer on it then the firmware in the charger is set for matching and not charging.. thus you would have to change the chip to charge...then it still depends on the revision of the unit...what color is the faceplate... Black with white writing(Original HI IQ) Black with red writing (Hi IQ Senior) Sliver with some color of writing(super IQ>>>Or SUPER 2 If the faceplate says super 2... Or Red with silver wringing Maxtec 3000..

The GFX will charge deadshorted packs,I had mine sent back for a firmware upgrade, but it's really not necessary, just use the motor run feature and bump the pack to get a little juice in and then switch over to charge mode. The latest version's have the right firmware, beside's who's deadshorting nowadays anyway? hopefully not 3800's anyway.

Just wait a couple months and I'm sure D.S will be all the rage again on some new cell. Bottom line for the $$ I think he cant go wrong. Sold my GFX, worst in thier lineup IMHO it takes more key strokes to accomplish certain tasks than any other model. I wouldnt try to charge my motors, nor would I try to motor run my packs, the linear charge and motor run are two very different things...

You can't charge your motors LOL! but it will let you "bump" your batteries with the motor run, this is just enough to get the pack going so you can charge.Doesn't hurt anything I did it for a year with no problems.

I bought a GFX recently , and think it was the best thing since sliced bread. One thing that I like doing with it is compairing cell/pack discharge curves. You can dump the charge/discharge data into a computer via the RS-232 serial port and then plot it in Excel. That really shows you what's up with your packs. It spells it out so clear that you have no doubt about which packs do what better than others. Sometimes you want runtime, or higher overall voltage etc. this tells all. Next time you're around the track I explain the whole deal to you. I tried it Charlie's and it didn't seem to work, probably just need to configure the serial port correctly. His is older, it's a stealth turbo 30.
