HookupsXXX4 02-15-2006, 06:09 PM Hey all,
Well, that ball as started to roll for the Triple Crown. I started this thread for info and a place to talk about the series. That way I am not high-jacking the other threads.
I have talked to Chris from Reagan R/C Raceway and he is all for it. I just have to get with him later so we can work out the details.
Also, John from Xtreme R.C. Sports is interested as well. I talked with him for awhile today and got alot covered on what we have to do to make this happen.
All I need to do is get ahold of Ryan from the Jefferson track. Ryan, if you are out there PM me.
No dates have been set, but from talking with John and Chris, this is how it might go down.
First race will be held in Medina sometime in August. Second, Xtreme R.C. Sports will host sometime in September. I would like to fit in 2 weeks after the RAC at McCulloughs. When I get with Ryan, the Jefferson race would be in Oct. after they open.
This will be a points race, best points after the 3 races. NO throw outs, since we are only having 3 races. We are thinking about giving trophys back for the top 5 in each class. Also a TQ trophy for each class at each event.
Classes:
Stock Buggy
Stock Truck
Mod Buggy
Mod Truck
4WD
1/8 Scale
Monster Truck
1/10 Gas Truck
Novice
There is talk of a 1/18 Mini class and a Retro Class if there is interest.
I would like to keep the entry fee to what the club charges for a club race. We will see what happens. Also, per-entry might happen so we know what the turn out might be.
This is all in the planning stages, so if anyone has any ideas, here is the place to post. We are also looking for anyone that wants to help out and make this thing happen. I would like to see this turn into a once-a-year thing and something that everyone looks forward to.
All advice welcome!
Jerry
RC10T4 02-15-2006, 08:34 PM ok so medina track will still race every saterday starting early may.. But you just want one race at every location u said a total of three races for the year right?
T_Reiner 02-15-2006, 08:59 PM Buy the time the outdoor tracks are open, doesn't ryan shut down?
you'll want to talk to the K&B guys.
HookupsXXX4 02-15-2006, 09:05 PM Yes, Medina will race every weekend, but I talked to Chris today, and he thinks that they will race three weeks out of the month, and have one weekend off. If there is a rainday, they will run on the day that was going to be a "off" day.
If everything goes as we are planning, one race day at Medina will be for part of the Triple Crown. We are looking at Aug. Even if you are not going to all the Triple Crown races, you can still race that day.
Like posted above, Medina in Aug. Xtreme R.C. Sports in Sept. and (if I can get with Ryan) Jefferson in Oct.
I will get with you when we need some help. We will need a small crew for Tech.
Jerry
HookupsXXX4 02-15-2006, 09:08 PM T_Reiner-I am trying to get with Ryan and have the Jefferson race when they open back up next fall. It will be the 3rd race of the 3.
Jerry
eman1 02-15-2006, 11:05 PM Jerry- What about a truggy(unlimited 1/8th scale) class? This is going to be one of the big ones in medina this year. Just somthing i didnt see on the class list unless it is with the monster trucks.
HookupsXXX4 02-15-2006, 11:24 PM Yeah, we can run them. I don't know very much about nitro (I am in to electric) and we are looking for a few that are into nitro and will help out with them. What I mean by that is what classes everything would fall into and what has to be done as far as tech goes. I know last year that Truggy was ran with MT. I don't know if that is fair or not.
I am sure if there is a interest in them, and from what you are saying there is, I am sure we will have a Truggy class.
Thanks eman1-this is the input that we are looking for.
We are going to try to make this one of the best R/C Series that runs in Ohio.
BTW-I plan on getting with Losi and AE for prizes, any ideas on who I should else contact?
Jerry
eman1 02-15-2006, 11:50 PM Jerry- Truggy and MT are going to be 2 different classes this year in Medina. So i would say that this should be the same for this series. As the sponsors go i would talk to battery companies, motor companies, ect. You could also talk to Chris about the hobby store doing somthing if him, bill, and larry are intersted
HookupsXXX4 02-15-2006, 11:58 PM If that is the way that Medina is running them, 2 different classes, then that is how they are going to get ran for the series.
Chris said that the hobby shop will throw some things in. He even talked about store credit slips.
I also plan on getting ahold of Tony at Power Push, for the simple fact that they are a local company. HPI I hear gives good stuff away for events like this. Also thinking about Fantom, Pro-Line, and try my luck with Novak and Trinity.
Need some input on what Nitro companies I should talk to.
Jerry
eman1 02-16-2006, 12:08 AM Some nitro/ misc. companies- odonell fuel, OS engines, JR, futaba, airtronics, orion, ofna, panther tires. There is alot more out thier too get in contact with. Its worth it to try and call any company/ manufacturer for sponsorship.
Mames 02-16-2006, 12:19 AM Jerry
hey go onto to truggyracers.com and talk to crsmp5. he runs the site and lives near jefferson. he has been sponsering numerous races. had a hand in the ccrc winter gas nationals. and has alot of manufactor support. see what he can do with you. he's a nice guy and is trying to set up something with k&b this summer. Tell him mames from the neo bashers sent you to him, i emailed him tonight to inform him you might email.
matt
HookupsXXX4 02-16-2006, 08:15 AM Thanks Mames, I will try and get ahold of him tonight after work.
Jerry
T_Reiner 02-16-2006, 08:19 AM I see,
You should try and get K&B in it anyway, and then have the best 3 out of 4 race format. Take points from the best three races, one drop.
There is a better chance of someone making it to 3 of 4 race dates, rather than 3 of 3 races.
What that does, if someone can't make one date, they won't go to any.
Also, if you want throphies/t-shirt/prizes, etc. you'll have to charge more than $10-$12. That's what the extra money goes for mostly.
Just food for thought.
HookupsXXX4 02-16-2006, 08:37 AM T_Reiner-Thanks for some insight, and I am thinking about making it a 3 out of 4 race.
I have never been to K&B. I don't know what kind of program they run down there. Do you have any info so I can get ahold of someone from there?
As far as entry fees, that is still up in the air. We are very much still in the planning stages and this topic has really not been covered. I would like to keep it as low as we can, so everyone from pro to novice will be able to run the serise and not break the bank. Alot of it will come down to what the tracks are happy with.
Keep the posts coming, they are all a great help,
Jerry
T_Reiner 02-16-2006, 10:08 AM http://www.ratt12121.com/forum/
They run a great program as well, mostly nitros the day I went up there, but the track would cater to flashlights well also
LeJohn_James_23 02-16-2006, 03:46 PM If we are going to run stock and mod for the electric's we will have to do the same for the nitro's. The only thing is, I don't think it would be possible to run that many classes in one day... Would we be able to just have just one class for each type of vehicle? For example, all 1/8 buggy's run together.
I like the idea of having 4 or 5 tracks on the schedule so if someone misses one, it won't hurt them. Maybe add K&B for a late summer race? Also add CRCRC if they are interested, that could be in November.
John
HookupsXXX4 02-16-2006, 05:00 PM Hey,
Ryan got with me today, and I am going to talk to him later tonight. From the way his PM sounded, Jefferson is in. I will know a little more tonight.
I am going to also get a hold of K&B and see if they are interested as well. Also, CRCRC is a idea too.
I would like this to be a one day event, if it grows to big, then maybe electric one day and gas the next. Time will tell.
Now that we have a couple tracks lined up, Mike(the other fella working with me on this) and I are going to sit down Sunday and start putting this thing together. Look for a big update here on Sunday night.
Thanks again to everyone that has added ideas, keep them coming.
Jerry
LeJohn_James_23 02-16-2006, 06:08 PM Jerry, you have a private message.
LeJohn_James_23 02-16-2006, 06:18 PM I have contacted CRSMP5 over at truggyracers.com and he'll set us up with a forum over there to try to get more people involoved. He also said to try to get ahold of crcrc and k&b... I'll put some posts at other sites after we work out a few more things.
Mames 02-16-2006, 11:37 PM crsmp5 runs at k&b alot, so thats your inside person there. he's a good guy.
damm maybe 5 tracks. just waiting to here what come's next.
matt
HookupsXXX4 02-16-2006, 11:50 PM Some big steps where taken today. I have for the most part three tracks locked in. Medina, Jefferson and Oberlin.
I have sent a e-mail to K&B, but have not heard anything back as of yet. Anyone out there that has a phone number to call, so I can talk to someone from K&B?
If K&B does not join, then it will be the three tracks. I have thought about CRCRC, but I don't know if the interest is there for the ones that will race the Triple Crown, to travel to CRCRC. I may be wrong.
I am going to be getting with all the track owners this weekend, so hopefully I can get some dates set. They will not be set in stone, but will give everyone a good idea on when this will take place.
If K&B joins, they will be the opening race in July. If not, Medina will host the opener in Aug. I am looking at the end of that month. Xtreme R/C will be late Sep. and I already told Ryan that he can have the finale in Jefferson. Trophys will be awarded then.
The TQ Trophy idea has been scrapped.
I know that this is along way off, 6 months almost till the first race, but I want to get this all ready so I have alot of time to promote the series I am glad to see a interest in it already.
Thanks,
Jerry
LeJohn_James_23 02-17-2006, 09:15 AM One problem I see right away is having the finals in Jefferson and then awarding trophies the same day. That would mean, if k&b or crcrc/crazy boyz does not join, we would only have 3 races and we might not be able to figure everything out that day after the racing is done (for the trophies). I am sure we'll get this worked out by then...
The date that we thought we be best for us is: September 24th with a rain date of October 1st. Ryan, if your on here or Jerry can ask, would late October be okay? Like around October 22nd or 29th? We have an anual race, Thunder in October, which we will try to put in sometime between our stop and Jefferson's. We were shooting for October 8th and a rain date of the 15th. So if Jefferson could have theirs late in October, that would be GREAT  ! Then for Medina... I am not sure what they want... maybe mid to late August??? I am just trying to get some dates worked out so I can start posting about this on different sites.
Thanks, LeJohn
LeJohn_James_23 02-17-2006, 09:28 AM Also, if we are wanting to get each race in in one day, we will have to limit # of classes and # of entries. I am up for having a weekend thing. That way it could be a controlled practice on friday, qualifiers on saturday, and qualifiers/mains on sunday. Or limit it and have practice on Saturday and try to cram it in on Sunday (or if the track is wanting to race on Saturday, have practice/qualifiers thursday and/or friday).
emod15_777 02-17-2006, 01:51 PM Any date is really ok with me. I, however, race nitro and electric at seperate times. That is because we are indoors and electric racers don't want to sniff nitro fumes. Understandable, I don't like the fumes! The morning electric, afternoon nitro seems to work quite well. Another option is to seperate the days. Just food for thought. I am very flexible, and if we had to run them all together for one weekend, it wouldn't really kill any of us.
LeJohn_James_23 02-17-2006, 02:28 PM I am up for just about anything... Since you guys are indoors, it might be best to have electric first then nitro or split them over two days... up to you, just an idea. For the outdoor tracks like ours and Medina, it really doesn't matter when we run which class.
Ryan, do you think it would be best if we had it over 2 days since we're not trying to cram everything together?
HookupsXXX4 02-17-2006, 04:30 PM Hey John, your dates that you named off are perfect. Alot of what day it is held on is on the tracks. What would work best. If you would like to stay with the Sept 24, that is perfect, works for me.
The Jefferson race might have to be a two day event. I can see running Electric on Saturday, and Nitro on Sunday. Alot can depend on turn out. If we are having low turn outs, I can see running electric in the A.M. and Nitro in the P.M. I don't see us having a low turn out, so we might have to go with a two day event. I would like to see this event on the Oct. dates that John posted. Ryan, it is your call, what ever works for you.
When time comes to hand out trophys, I can make sure that everything is ready as far as knowing who might be taking home some hardware. It will not take much to add up the points for the winner. After every race, I plan on posting results anyway, so everyone will know where they stand.
I have not hearded anything from K&B.
Thanks,
Bettis
LeJohn_James_23 02-18-2006, 09:51 AM I just talked to "scareheep" had truggy racers, I guess he knows the guys at K&B well. He said he'll try to talk with the people that run K&B and see if they are up for it.
HookupsXXX4 02-18-2006, 09:59 AM John- Sounds good.
I still have not heard anything from K&B. I have no idea how often they check the e-mail in the off season. I am sure I will hear back from them soon.
If they can get in touch with them that would be great.
Jerry
LeJohn_James_23 02-18-2006, 10:08 AM So whats the latest on Medina? Are they in? Are those dates going to work for them? If not, which dates are okay with them?
HookupsXXX4 02-18-2006, 10:14 AM I only talked to Chris that one time, but he was cool with everything. When he goes to sit down to make races dates, he was going to give me a call. He is going to do it soon. Chris is a really good guy, and I know the planning part for the Medina race will be easy. We both agreed to a Aug. race there.
Jerry
LeJohn_James_23 02-19-2006, 08:25 PM I think it would be best to run this over 2 days at each track. Electric on Saturdays and Nitro on Sundays... does that sound ok? This would help with people not having to travel 2 days in a row and for the Jefferson stop, the electric guys will not have to worry about the fumes and such. Also by having it 2 days, we can run all classes and not have to worry about cramming the quallifiers and mains together to make it in one day. What classes should be run for ellectric? For gas, there should atleast be 1/8 buggy, 1/8 arena truck (truggies), monster truck, and 1/10 truck. Should there be sub class', like stock and unlimited?
HookupsXXX4 02-19-2006, 11:38 PM Over the course of the next two weeks a packet is going to be made. I will send one to each track with guildlines and rules. If there is something that doesn't not sit well, then we can address it then till all tracks agree.
Once we have this done, I would like to use it as our rule book. Once everything is final, I would have some made for any that would want one. Maybe I will have them sent to all that enter. Like what the Indoor Champs does.
I am reading that there is talk at diffrent tracks about this, good stuff.
Jerry
HookupsXXX4 02-21-2006, 06:57 PM Anyone out there know how to get in contact with someone from K&B? I am starting to put things in order and I would like to see if they are interested in hosting.
Thanks in advance!
Jerry
emod15_777 02-21-2006, 07:22 PM I will see them this weekend. I'll let them know whats up. I will pm you my address.
HookupsXXX4 02-21-2006, 07:48 PM Ryan-Thanks, tell them I sent a e-mail.
Jerry
z. cooper 02-21-2006, 11:56 PM Hey Jerry, the date for the mod nats is AUG 10-13, you might want to work the medina race around that.Just a thought
HookupsXXX4 02-22-2006, 04:19 PM Zach-Thanks for the info on the Mod Nats. I don't really know what races are in Aug., I am looking to it.
The Xtreme R/C race will be the end of Sept. They need to get ready, plus RAC at McCullogh's is that month. I want to go again, that was a good race.
