View Full Version : Universal....Nitwits??
iamweasel 02-15-2006, 08:47 AM Okay, not only did Universal go completely stupid on the Kate & Allie DVD's MSRP of 30 bucks for 6 episodes, but now Coach which has 13 episodes for it's first season has an MSRP of 40. Funny how I can get 22 hours of SG1 for the same price of 6 1/2 hours of Coach.
I know these companies can be greedy as hell but Universal has taken it into an art form. They trying to keep up with Exxon-Mobil?
John P 02-15-2006, 08:54 AM You're lucky it wasn't Paramount. $150 for the first season of Voyager?!!
iamweasel 02-15-2006, 02:52 PM And thats exactly why I refused to buy any Trek DvD's as of yet.
BEBruns 02-15-2006, 03:07 PM I can understand the STAR TREK price (even though I don't like it). There are enough rabid fans willing pay that sort of money. But KATE & ALLIE? COACH? Do they really have fan bases eager to pay that? Or did they just figure they weren't going to sell many so they better make as much profit as they could off each one? Or maybe they figured their main market for these will be rental stores.
Old_McDonald 02-15-2006, 05:57 PM Just be patient and watch for the clearances. They will eventually be marked down. Even the Star Trek series are being released as complete sets for about half the price. I bought this set for TNG for about half of the original asking price.

big-dog 02-16-2006, 03:59 AM Chappelle's Show: entire 1st season $19.99, 2nd season $24.99. The first season is 2 discs and the second is 3. Great buy, Just don't bring your kids!
If you like totally politically incorrect humor this is the one for you. Just don't wear your best pants, you'll be having to change them by the end.
I'm Rick James B....!

Ditto.
John P 02-16-2006, 03:56 PM They've discounted the first seasons of TNG to 50-ish bucks. I finally broke down and bought season 1.
omnimodel 02-16-2006, 04:21 PM So far, I've picked up TNG, DS9, and Voyager for around $130 per series from hidden pirate island (a.k.a. Hong Kong).
Of the three, Voyager was by far the best... the discs were the exact same as the US release, with the exception of some spelling mistakes printed on the disc... that, and they came in a paper box instead of the plastic.
DS9 came in second quality wise... the paper box offers no hint what episodes are in that season and the artwork is truly horrible, but most of the episodes are complete.
TNG was the worst of the sets. On many of the discs, the last episode will cut short by a few minutes, and the selection menu will be linked to the wrong episode.
Lloyd Collins 02-16-2006, 04:38 PM I just saw at Sam's Club yesterday STNG about $50 and X-Files $38. Now they are priced right. Since us rabid ST fans will pay high prices for the DVDs, I expect TAS to be at least $100.
iamweasel 02-16-2006, 07:21 PM I admit to paying the VERY high prices for the U.F.O. series but that had such a small market niche I had no real problem with the price. That was also a late 60's early 70's show so the amount of folks who even would remember it would tend to be small. Hell I remember ewatching it with my brother and he had absolutely no clue as to the show.
The Paramount price for ANY Trek is nothing but a case of "we know you folks will pay any for it so bend on over."
El Gato 02-16-2006, 07:42 PM ^ No kidding. I'll stick with viewing the occassional TiVo suggestion.
