View Full Version : Excalibur SK Modified Spec Racer
jimmyoval 02-14-2006, 08:23 PM I just thought I start a thread to define what the Excalibur SK Mod Spec Racer is all about. It is a spec racer with an SK Body. It was designed to be a entry level racer with a little bit of pan car features. This was to give entry level and experienced racers getting back into it a class where they could not only have fun, but learn more about pan cars. And move up to pan cars without all the frustration that came say from going from a legend to pan car. It's a high quality kit. CNC machined with IRS axle and hubs. It comes with a SK body.
Several stores are running the car up and down the east coast and a club in michigan. The most fun I ever had was running legends and street spec's. But with the troubles that came with getting stuff. I went out and came up with the car with some help from my friends. I gives a true spec car feel. It wasn't meant to be a high end pan car. I put a spec shock and a dampner tube to keep it spec.
The price is very reasonable. Other people have just a chassis that you can put your existing pan car parts on it and say for $30 dollars you have a kit. But what if you didn't have an old car. Try puting new parts on that chassis. It would easly cost as much as my kit. Hubs, axle and bearings alone, as any one who has purchased these items are not cheap. Plus add a body to the mix and you are talking in the $150.00 range.
I built the car for my passion for RC and the SK mod as run at Stafford Motor Speedway. I don't make alot on the kits. Most RC Kits are all over $200. The rear pod allows for rotating the axle plates so a new tire can be run and not cut if so desired, another spec innovation.
Am am not trying to put down other classes of the SK. I know and race with alot of those guys. My kit is meant for stores and clubs that want a practical kit with the support of a manufacturer who cares about his product. I often sponser many races and bring the beefy products team of drivers to as many races as possible to support local and not so local tracks and events.
If anyone wants to know more. Post on this thread or e-mail me at sales@beefyproducts.com. You can also call 860-432-5806.
Thank You
Jim
tfrahm 02-14-2006, 11:18 PM One problem for me is that everyone talks about these cars, but as far as I can tell, there are exactly ZERO web sites for ANY of the types or brands or ANYTHING...
If there is such a thing as an "official" SK modified, there should be a web site with pictures, rules, specifications, "how to order", etc...
oldtimer 02-15-2006, 01:53 AM Tfram if you go to beefy racing products you can find all about the xcaliber car there . I be live you are rt we will talk to team manager about a web site so everyone can check out this awsome spec car . Thanks beefy member Kenneth Boehm
We run them at Trax70 in New Jersey along with the old BME Bare Bonz modifieds and follow our own rules with them keeping them stock... there's no real modifications necessary to make them handle good if you follow spec rules as we do. We only allow 4 cell spec packs, spec motors and brushes and they are a blast on our indoor track we call the Bullring @ Trax70 (only 75' driveline). they are only about 2-3 tenths slower than the 1/10th scale stock class. which makes them very drivable and easy to get set up. By allowing better batteries and motors will only make them more sensitive to setup which would ruin the purpose of the class.
Keep up the Great work Jim!

jimmyoval 02-20-2006, 11:26 PM I think the key to this class is to keep it spec. The excalibur is run at many different tracks with different rules depending on the track carpet and size of the track. I think battery and motor rules are the most easy way to keep costs down. It is really up to the race director or track owners to run what fits there situation the best. The car is very flexable. Newcomers can really learn oval basics. Its great looking and cost effective. Check out www.beefyproducts.com to get a look at the chassis & body. I know the most fun I've every had was starting out in the spec classes. This car is in the same tradition. Keeping it fun is the real key to all r/c racing.
Thanks jim
omnis85 02-21-2006, 02:14 PM Jim get nick out there with his beefy car. Would love to run with him. I am considering buying one to race any where but my local track to stop the nonesense of this is not going to work or will or bla bla bla. tqd and won sat night with a solid, want to see if I can do the same with the car, I am sure nick can. Ken K
jimmyoval 02-21-2006, 02:56 PM Ken. Both Kenny B. and I will run at K&N on the NEOT tour race just for fun. I've already talked to a couple of people and hope we put all the nonsense behind. I'm sure much of it is a misunderstanding. If you need a car for that race. You can use my backup demo car. I'm sure you can get it going better than I. I'd like to see nick out there also, but he's afraid i'll beat him! ha!
Going to Marshall's this weekend to support there outstanding program. But when we come back will be at K&N to get tuned up for the NEOT. Send me an e-mail @ sales@beefyproducts.com or call 860-432-5806 to let me know what your plans are.
Thanks JIM

KDarc 06-07-2006, 10:01 PM This car is outstanding, the class is out standing. Jimmy, the owner of Beefy Products is outstanding to deal with and a pleasure to race with. You will not be unhappy wheeling a Beefy car on either the flats or the big banks. Right out of the box they are hooked up. From another happy Team Beefy Driver , Kevin Darcy
NCFRC 07-05-2006, 10:37 PM We have three of these

what does the windtunnel body look like?
NCFRC 07-08-2006, 10:58 AM How much difference between the two bodies ??
carl jr 07-08-2006, 06:37 PM I just got one i haven't raced it yet but i did do some test runs car was very good . I will race it next week at the K/N
omnis85 07-08-2006, 06:47 PM carl I think they are talking about the bodies, the differnce between the two is, beefy has a hatch back and a bubble cowl, the windtunnel is actualy the bolink cavelier body from back in the hay day, the windtunnel has no trunk, more like straight hatch back, and has no bubble cowl, both are nice looking bodies. best of both worlds. carl hopefuly I will have one aswell so we can battle it out.
jimmyoval 07-10-2006, 03:52 PM Yes Ken is right. The windtunnel is the original Bolink mold for you guys who love the old school look. The excalibur body has the bubble on the hood and more of a newer look to it. Either way its a great starter spec kit designed for new racers or older racers just trying to keep costs down.
omnis85 07-10-2006, 03:53 PM jim did you get my message? I will be going to k/n this weekend. email me or let me know when to call.
NCFRC 07-11-2006, 09:31 PM Are they the same thickness ?
The excaliber body is vertually indestructible !!
omnis85 07-11-2006, 09:50 PM that I dont know but would imagine it couldnt be that much off.
RCRacer00 07-17-2006, 04:48 PM Finally got the SK chassis to handle to my liking and made it to 1st place B-MAin at KN this past sunday. with the help of beffy springs and other products the car is awesome....

Nice job Ken! Is that the "pro version"?
jbm38 07-29-2006, 01:22 AM With the SK class cars, if you have a Beefy car can you runs an upper a-frame Associated set up instead of the solid king pin set up?
omnis85 07-29-2006, 02:17 AM depends on the trackand what they allow you to do. but the holes do allow you to install the dynamic front end.
carl jr 07-29-2006, 06:09 PM So much hate so little time .
omnis85 07-29-2006, 09:38 PM lol,its fun to be fast
