I tried searching and I couldnt find exactly what im looking for. How does the front springs affect the handling of the car. Stiffness, harder on one side, different combinations. And what is the usual setup for short flat tracks.

I would try red front springs first, or a red left front green right front.

That is not a simple question to answer, way too many variables. but in a nut shell, softer equals more grip. But then again, you have tire compounds, how much weight transfer do you want or need..... the list goes on......

More often than not flat tracks no matter what size most racers go with red 10# to green #12 or if you split hairs as some like myself do you can go to in between stuff in a progressive. Example: if you think you need a tad softer feel on the right front then go to a green progressive which is a 11#-13#. In regards to what to use on the left or right. You always want the stronger spring on the left front on flat tracks to creat turn. Or if you running a class where you dont need as agressive of a turn then use matched springs on each side. Here are some common ideas for you

Two red 10# on LF & RF
Two Green 12# LF & RF
Green 12# LF & Red 10#
Green progressive 11#-13# RF & Red 10# on LF

When preloading make sure that no matter what spring is on the left front that you preload it until there is approximatly .020 of a gap between the bottom of the steering block and the top of the lower a arm. Right front preload is determined by the feel you looking for.

these are examples but this is only ideas, you also have to consider how you dampen your king pins as well. Shur lube is the hot ticket to further help you obtain the feel your looking for.

This may or may not be understood real well but it is just examples for you to go by until you learn what feel or combination works the best for you. Feel free to ask more questions and Ill do my best to help out.

When your are trying to get the car to turn better use softer springs. The down side is that you take away rear grip when you do that. So when you go stiffer in the front you plant the rear and you then make your car tight.

I have been running purple rf and green lf our track is very tight but it seems to work. This is with hard tires also. Hope this helps

Fireball, it depends on class and track conditions but I have a rule of thumb that I never go over a green 12# on flat carpet. And you always want equal springs on each side or heavier on the left on flat as mentioned above. You will get much better rotation and that will make the car faster and more effecient for you. I should have expanded to say that the preload on your springs would be with a battery in the car. Race trim other than body
