Hey Guy's,
When i make my rubber molds (alumilite) i use either an original Tyco, AFX, etc. plastic body or a die-cast body as the master. Now, i am looking to perform some major mods to my masters (ie: heighten the front fenders on a Porsche 956 by 1/8th of an inch, lower the side panels by 50%, reshape and contour the rear-end, etc.) so i can make new resin casts. Initially, i was thinking to use Bondo w/hardener and Tamiya Body Fill to mod the plastic bodies but, have not worked with these products before and wasn't sure how sturdy they would be. Then, i thought it might be better to use JB Weld to mod the die-cast masters.

Either way i go, the prototype will be used to cast a new rubber mold. I need a little advise on which way to go. What are the pro's and con's of moding plastic or die-cast?

Thanks.

I would think the plastic would be easier to work with once you started shaping and gluing extension pieces in place as opposed to the diecast. However, the diecast would hold up more to the rigors and stress of grinding and handling when your doing the body work to get her in the shape and finish you desire. Bascially it comes down to this, if you have the right tools and patience, it really won't matter as each media brings it's own pros and cons and we all know of Murphy's law. rr.

I used some stuff called Milliput which can be found here http://www.ares-server.com/Ares/Ares.asp. You mix equal amounts of the two parts together and it can be shaped any way you want. It dries hard as a rock and can be sanded, filed and painted. I used it to make bumpers on this 356.

I got it through Micro-Mark. I thought the link would save time, but I guess they want you to go through the proper sequence to get there.
