View Full Version : Xtreme R.C. Sports in Oberlin, Ohio
LeJohn_James_23 02-08-2006, 11:15 AM We are a new track located in Oberlin, Ohio. We will be catering to all different types of off road racing. We are currently working on a much bigger and better track. We have an on-site hobby shop. Will be holding our first official race season this spring/summer, starting when the weather cooperates. Hope to see some new faces out there this year.

ccm399 02-08-2006, 02:16 PM I can't wait until this spring. I assume you guys will be running 1/8 scale? Yes, I hope!!!
If so count me in.
Chris
LeJohn_James_23 02-08-2006, 02:20 PM Last year was our first year for racing... we started last summer and only had monster trucks running, but this year we will have 1/8 scale buggy's, MT's, 1/10 scale gas/electric... we'll run whatever comes out :)
HPIFreak 02-08-2006, 04:56 PM come one come all! FUN LITTLE TRACK!
http://image.rcuniverse.com/gallery/galleryimages/lg-35357.jpg
too bad its getting bulldozes, so it can be replaced by an even BIGGER TRACK!
HookupsXXX4 02-08-2006, 04:57 PM I didn't know that you guys ran eletric out there. I live real close, and have been wondering what days you run on.
What would your days of racing be on? It would be great if it was a Sunday, I could hit both! If you have a good size stock truck class I wouldn't mind going a few times.
Thanks for the info,
Jerry
LeJohn_James_23 02-08-2006, 05:01 PM Our track is gonna be almost double the size of the one in Freak's picture... We will run electric if we get more electric guys out here.
Hope to see some new faces out there this year :)
LeJohn_James_23 02-08-2006, 05:03 PM Our races are on Sundays
HookupsXXX4 02-08-2006, 05:37 PM That might work out pretty well then. Let us know when you are going to get things started over there.
I have been by the track a couple of times on my way to the Gate. Looks to be good size from the road.
Let us know,
Jerry
LeJohn_James_23 02-08-2006, 10:50 PM Will do
rctazmanmc 02-09-2006, 12:03 AM If you are going to draw a large crowd be it for nitro or electric you need to definately advertise and give the people something to come too.
I would be very interested if the energy and people are there.
mike
LeJohn_James_23 02-09-2006, 08:54 AM Last year was our first year... it went kinda slow, but we are hoping for big things this year! We want to get all types of vehicles out there and make it fun for everyone :)
T_Reiner 02-09-2006, 10:31 AM I'm glad you're going bigger,
Please don't take offence, this is meant in the most construtive of ways.
I'd come by and looked at the track last summer and frankly I thought it was not worth my time. It was way to small for the land you guys have available.
I'm only 10 minutes away, I can wait to see what you come up with.
You need some extra help, LMK I'm willing
good luck
LeJohn_James_23 02-09-2006, 12:02 PM I agree out track was small, but at the time we didn't have the equipment we needed to make what we wanted. We won't be doing any major work on the track until the weather is a little nicer. I'll post in the future when we'll be working on it.Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!
Marty Mangione 02-09-2006, 02:06 PM This is GREAT another TRACK now i can run all weekend Marty TSB
HookupsXXX4 02-09-2006, 04:22 PM LeJohn_James_23- Got your PM, I will talk to a couple boys that will be running in Jefferson this weekend. Most of them are Medina guys, and they might make the trip. Alot of them are on Hobby Talk and have seen this thread.
I'll let you know,
Jerry
LeJohn_James_23 02-09-2006, 10:30 PM Ok, thanks Hookups. What all do they race in Jefferson?
HookupsXXX4 02-09-2006, 11:18 PM The stock truck class was pretty big. I also ran in stock buggy too. I don't know what they get for nitro, we where pretty much packed and on our way home by then.
Jerry
T_Reiner 02-10-2006, 08:31 AM In Nitro, The big class is 1/8 buggy
a decent class of Monster truck
and a hand full of Stadium trucks
LeJohn_James_23 02-10-2006, 08:56 AM Thats cool. Last year we mostly had Monster trucks's. But this year we want to have Buggy, MT, Stadium... gas and electric.
HookupsXXX4 02-14-2006, 09:48 PM Hey all,
A couple of us have beening thinking about trying to organize a series of three of races at three different tracks. They do this in on-road racing alot, but you don't hear of it in off-road to much. I am seeing if there is any interest from the racers that race at Medina, Jefferson, and Oberlin. If there is, then we are thinking about taking the steps to putting something like this on and getting with those who run the tracks.
We are thinking calling it "Off-Road Ohio Triple Crown". Thus, it will be a points race at three diffirent tracks. After the last race, trophys will be given to the top three in each class. This could change to more, but a rough idea. Also the idea of a trophy for the TQ in each class at each event.
Classes:
Stock Buggy
Stock Truck
Mod Buggy(if interest)
Mod Truck(if interest)
1/18
Novice
4WD
1/8 Scale
Gas Truck
Monster Truck
Although this is just in the planning stages, I think that this would be a great series and the tracks would be taking in the money after we figure out how we would take care for the trophys.
If anyone has any ideas, post here, all are welcome. If anyone wants to help get this thing going post here or PM me. If we are to do this, we have to get the ball rolling now.
Looking forward to see what happens,
Jerry
LeJohn_James_23 02-15-2006, 02:30 PM We have been thinking of doing something like that, but I don't think we are ready for that just yet. We want to run a series with less people. That way we can get our feet wet and know what we have to do to support a large number of racers... I'll speak with my father about this, but I think it would be best if we could do this in the 2nd half of the summer or at worst, next year. But I think it would be awsome to get a series going!
Also, I saw that the RC Pro series is starting a new class, its Arena Trucks. That is for all of the Truggys

HookupsXXX4 02-15-2006, 02:39 PM Hey John,
The way I was thinking was to have your track at the end. Maybe July. I would like to run Jefferson first, since they have to be out of the building they are in sometime in April. I have not talked to Ryan at all out any of this. This is something that really became form last night.
The second track would be Medina. Maybe the begining of June. Again, I have not talked to Chris or Bill about this.
We can see what shape you guys are in come late July. Maybe later then that. I would like to have a fourth race, maybe back at Medina to hand out trophys.
What would be a good time to get one on one with you? Heck you live right up the street from me. I will be home all afternoon and evening.
Thanks,
Jerry
LeJohn_James_23 02-15-2006, 02:48 PM My father runs the place and he doesn't get home until 8 or so, so I would have to wait till then to get ahold of him. I am up for it, its just I would prefer if it could be late in the season so we can work out some bugs. Maybe there would be a way to get Crazy Boys (or whatever its called) down in Columbus (its were the CRCRC guys race in the summer) as the 3rd stop and have us last so we can figure things out. We could always have a championship in Medina (up to them) after the "regular season" is over. Just throwing out some ideas... I hope we can get this to work this year.
John
HookupsXXX4 02-15-2006, 02:54 PM I can see that working. Do you have anyway of getting ahold of them?
I think we can get this to work if we all come together with it. I plan on making some phone calls tonight, I will know more then.
Jerry
LeJohn_James_23 02-15-2006, 03:00 PM crcrc.com is there web site, if you want to try to get ahold of someone there. Another idea; since this is all coming together late... maybe have the race in Jefferson be next winter? When do they start racing indoors? Also, CRCRC races indoors (not sure when they stop) so we could put them on the schedule... up to everyone.
We started having a "big" race 2 years ago (our opening day) calling it Thunder in October... maybe we can have it then or around then.
Jerry, I'll send ya a pm with our home phone # if you want to get ahold of one of us to discuss this further.
John
HookupsXXX4 02-15-2006, 03:03 PM John-Sounds good, I will call you here in a little bit then.
Jerry
HookupsXXX4 02-15-2006, 06:37 PM Hey,
Started a thread for the Off-Road Ohio Triple Crown. Check there for info.

rctazmanmc 02-17-2006, 04:26 PM John - Jerry - sorry to butt in but I have a question on oval at Oberlin.
Was there a draw for electric oval last year? Asking since I have a bk2 I am going to sell but if I can convert it to a oval car and run it there I will.
Not really wanting to invest if it might happen 3 times this summer. I would like to try my hand at oval and would like to help the electric class grow.
If so when would you run them? I will be running Medina unless it is the off day.
Post what you can John.
Thanks
mike
HookupsXXX4 02-17-2006, 04:36 PM Now oval sounds fun. Man, I would never think I would say that again.
If you are interested in running oval, I used to run oval back in '96 with Losi cars, man, that was a blast. Some mod buggy would be great.
I am also planning on running at your track this year. I am going to run all of Medina points races, but on the off day weekends, I would like to run out to your place. I am sure I could get to Medina boys to come run on Sunday if there is no Medina racing. Maybe a summer long points series?
Jerry
LeJohn_James_23 02-18-2006, 10:02 AM I am not sure what my has in mind for the oval. Last year we spent more time trying to keep the conditions of the track good than people did racing on it. Seemed like the only time anyone would want to use it was for warming up and dialing in their vehicle.
We will be running a summer point series, proboly starting in May/June and will be every sunday.
First post here.
I raced at in oberlin last year and had fun. This year should be much better with the new track going in. I'm up for the tripple crown race. I race a savage and a lsp. I raced at crcrc race but didn't do well at all but still had fun.
Still waiting for warmer weather!

You guys will need to push hard to have electric guys run there. We can help spread the word but advertising here and on the website will help greatly.
Just my thoughts.
We would like to have a full program of racing at Oberlin for the triple crown and it would probably help the track if you drew in racers and various classes.
I know some from Medina will come out and run if there is a good interest in electric.
mike
LeJohn_James_23 02-19-2006, 12:24 AM We will run both electric and nitro... We want to run just about every off road class week in and week out.
Marty Mangione 02-19-2006, 07:24 PM The fact that you are running on sunday will help turnout. i know i plan to run medina sat and oberlin sunday. just keep talking it up on hobbytalk once a few people run there word of mouth will do the rest. Marty TsB
LeJohn_James_23 02-19-2006, 08:02 PM The oval track is no longer going to be there. We are going to make the offroad track a lot bigger and take up that area. So that idea is out of the picture...
I have a question on how far is too far? The track will have one long straight with a small turn in the middle. Maybe about 200' with the small turn, about a 30 degree turn(or 150 degree, however you look at it). Is that too long? Also, how far away from the drivers stand can you judge you vehicle? Is 100' fine, can you see further away, or is 100' too far?
ccm399 02-20-2006, 01:11 PM Lap times are the most important thing to remember.
An 1/8 scale and truggy would be fine with the size you are talking (big) but a stock truck is going to have a hard time making 4 laps in a 5 min qualifier. You might entertain a "Short course" for electric and a "long course" gas. You could then put the larger jumps and such in the long course so the electric guys don't have to deal with a 30-40' long quad section or things like that.
Just my 2 cents!
BTW 200' sound GREAT to me!!!! Of course I run 1/8 scal e and possibly Truggy.
Talk to you soon,
Chris
ccm399 02-20-2006, 01:12 PM You wouldn't want to make it any deeper than 100'ish. That will be hard enough for most people to judge!
Chris
HookupsXXX4 02-20-2006, 08:12 PM John-You have PM

RCBOYZ 02-21-2006, 01:23 AM Opinions from an 1/8 scale racer. I love sundays, I have 2 boys that race also, but they are in travel baseball also, so this gives us an option if we can't race on Saturday. I agree that you need (if you can) have a long track and short track. Medina does a great job with laying out there track for electric and gas. But it would be nice to have a track more suited for 1/8 scale. Here is the track for the Nitro Challenge in Hemet, Ca. Typical Cali track, but you can see that they go pretty far out. Not saying this is possible, but it gives you an idea of what a typical 1/8 layout is.
mike
Hemet track (http://www.teamxray.com/xforum/viewtopic.php?p=32306#32306) Its above half way down on this forum
HookupsXXX4 02-23-2006, 05:21 PM John-You have PM.

ccm399 03-08-2006, 07:39 PM When are you guys planning on starting your season???
LeJohn_James_23 03-08-2006, 07:43 PM I am guessing late April/early May... everything depends on the weather. Currently we are working on making the track much bigger. We are working on drainage right now... I'll post more in the future.
BigMike1 03-10-2006, 01:48 PM Sound all good to me!
ccm399 03-24-2006, 08:29 PM Any pics???
