This seems debatable at our track. After discharging a 3300 4 cell battery with a light bulb setup, should they be dead shorted with a wire or do you feel it's not necessary? Most guys at the track tell me I should but there's a couple that told me they've done extensive testing and found zero benefits to dead shorting. I try to keep my car and my son's car ready for each round so it takes me more time to solder the wire on the batteries, then have to remove that wire to re-charge it later that day. But I'll continue to do so if necessary.
What do you think?
Your lose or runtime will increase your "cycle Voltage" so really no gain there, The biggest gain is you keep the Internals down whice will make the pack have more punch, On packs that have already been dead-shorted, DONT STOP, your Internals will go sky high, On a new 3300 you can get away without doing it as long as you Zapp your batt's atleast once a month.....

I'm still new to Hobby Talk , but there's been a dozen threads on here debating this subject....THERE IS NO CORRECT ANSWER IN THE RACING WORLD, 10 RACERS , 10 OPINIONS !!!
Buy your batteries from a reputable matcher and follow their advise !!

I guess I can't help but voice my opinion, w/ 20 yrs in this sport.
Use either the Tekin battery doctor or the Integy 0-30 for best battery performance and life,,,NEVER DEAD SHORT !!
Remember , batteries can only be cycled so many times in this sport with good track performance ,so if you can use them a couple seasons you've done good, sell off and buy new. DON'T THINK TOO HARD ABOUT THIS.
Good luck Racing

If you know how and can do it correctly it will help you.. If you run stock or 19 turn the voltage loss doesnt hurt.. your internal will be lower and voltage will be higher.. these will help alot in the above two classes.. Mod racers dont dead short because they need every ounce of runtime... A properly cared for dead shorted pack will last longer then a non dead shorted pack..
the other thing you have to remeber is this.. If your going to dead short.. It must be done from the build of the pack.. build it tray it then short.. NEVER stop.. if you dont do it the same every time your numbers will drop huge.. Doing it to a already used pack does not have as good of results.. You must do it after every run of the pack.. if you run twice in a day the pack has to cool be dead shorted, then re charge..

Good advice...Here's one of the best sites I've seen on the subject:
