Howdy Ya'll,
I realize this movie came out almost ten years ago (Copland (1997) - IMDb Entry (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118887/)) but I just saw this today for the first time and am obviously behind the times on seeing this one. I vaguely recall seeing that the movie was coming out, but we had just had our first child and I don't recall seeing a single movie the majority of that year. You know how it is once you've got kids - logistics and finances are your two major stumbling blocks for seeing movies 'til the kids get a bit older.
Stallone shows he really does have some acting chops in this flick. I was most impressed! He really does convey just how sad and pathetic poor Freddy's life has become. His face is much more expressive than I'd ever thought it could be other than to show the usual "bad-*** snarl" that we usually get. I was also impressed that he was the usual "Uber-Buff" Stallone we usually get from various movies he's in - one of the early scenes where he's lying in bed shows he's got a large gut underneath his T-shirt. That's more along the lines of the methodology that DeNiro, Nicholson and other much higher-caliber actors use.
Overall, I was most impressed w/Stallone's performance and the fact that it's got a veritable A-List of actors (DeNiro, Ray Liotta, Peter Berg, Michael Rapaport, Harvey Kietel, etc... including a cameo or sorts by Debra "Blondie" Harry and Janene Garofolo) doesn't hurt one bit, either. Everybody turns in first-class performances and the plot was quite engaging. In fact, I found very little in the way of Plot Holes for this one.
Overall, an excellent movie and I intend to add it to my DVD collection once I return to The World. Griff Says "Five Appendages Straight Up"!
