View Full Version : Three Questions to ask...
WesJY 01-30-2006, 01:27 AM No. 1 - does anyone know where I can get front independent (sp?) wheels good deal for tyco and srt chassis? do they come in colors? all I know is brown and chrome.. (Im looking for color ones) I found this picture on my harddrive and cannot remember where i got it from. can you tell me what this is?
No. 2 - Maybe a silly question but I just wanna know which cars is the most rarest (Holy Grail of slot cars) for tyco, afx, tjet? Just name one of each.. I am just curious. My guess is for tyco is petty roadrunner? for afx sugar daddy datsun? and for tjet is mustang? or am i wrong?
No. 3 - tyco pinion and gears - stock has 20 or 22 teeth right? do they have that for tyco/mattel 440x2 chassis? brst supposed to have like 25 or more? More teeth more faster or less teeth ? I'm working on tyco chassis with modified pick up shoes, armature, etc.. i am just trying to understand the whole thing i never done it before.
Thanks
Wes
AfxToo 01-30-2006, 07:28 AM That red front end looks like Slottech.
For independent front ends I prefer to use narrow hub Wizzard aluminums. Wizzard also has black plastic as does BSRT.
The stock Tycos are probably 7/25. For most tracks a 7/22 or 7/23 is a good compromise. When you go down to 7/21 or lower on the crown you get more top end but slower acceleration and braking. If you find your car has too much punch out of curves and can't compensate for it otherwise, a smaller crown gear will sometimes help you out if you have the torque to handle it. You can also go to an 8 tooth pinion for even more top end. If you get your calculator out and make a chart of the gear ratios 7/25 to 7/18 and 8/25 to 8/18 you'll see what you have to play with and know where you are with any given combination. But it's always fewer teeth on the crown or more teeth on the pinion make for more RPMs.

These are some cars what I know for sure (I'm at work and don't have any books with me), but I'm not an expert....and some are more common in Europa and scarcer in USA and as opposite.
AFX: First rare one would maybe be the BMW 320 in red color (if my memory serves well, avalaible only in Europa, but never seen any one for sale on the Bay for ages) - Datsun 510 "SugarDaddy" - Some rare Corvette A/P in plain color (except the yellow/black one) - Some F1 too, like the Bata Din, Polifac BMW, Candy Tyrell stenciled
TJet: Camaro in marroon/chocolate - Mustang, in candy colors especially - Charger in "i don't remember which color but maybe lime" - generally speaking, all Tjets in olive color commend higher prices than the others
Tyco: Ferrari 330 P4 in orange - Superbird "Petty" in light blue - Bobby Allison Chevelle "Coke" bronze and red - Buick Regal blue/yellow "Wrangler" - There are quite some Tyco cars that always sell for more than 500$ on the Bay
coach61 01-30-2006, 10:56 AM Zanza did a good list for each brand. But I can think only of the Watson Mclearn F1 as being a very rare rare AFX. ( I think its a AFX may be a Tyco.) As for T-jets.. anything not hit by a hammer, cutting tool and over 40 years old and in my house...

zanza 01-30-2006, 11:02 AM YES! the Watson AFX F1 is a really great white too: I forget it in my list
22tall 01-30-2006, 11:08 AM For Tomy I would say the red and black lighted Kemwood.
ParkRNDL 01-30-2006, 01:19 PM Bob Beers has said that the brown Camaro is up there.
I've seen a black painted Mustang go way up...
and orange or brown Makos are up there too...
