I'm rebuilding the carb on a 5 HP Briggs lawnmower for my son. Most of my experience has been on older engines. This one poured all the gas out through the primer bulb, so I went to town and bought a primer bulb. Then I found the new to be just like the old one. I took the carb apart, and it was pretty gunked up. I also found a drive-in plug had fallen into the bowl from the top of the carb. So I thought this had to be my problem. I soaked all the parts in carb cleaner and re-assembled the carb. I drove the round cap back into its place, and re-installed the carb. It went back to leaking, but not as badly as before. Is there a sealant that is supposed to be applied to the round disc? Is it likely I'll get this thing to run without flooding if I put a kit in it and a new float? This carb just doesn't seem quite as substantial as the old ones used to be.

shake the float, its probablly full of gas, so it won't float, and shut the fuel supply off when not needed, and yes, get a new gasket kit, would install a new inlet needle and seat as well.

Okay. The seat may be part of the problem. When I soaked the body I didn't remove the seat because the hole it sits in is so small I couldn't tell if there is a seat inside it. Thanks for the help.
