Saw that last night. No apparent cause of death.

Had only recently been thinking about him having watched At Close Range the other night for the first time sine it came out in the 80s. I remember thinking how young and slim and good looking he was then. It's only speculation but I have a feeling alcohol and/or drugs are contributing factors. Based on his recent physical appearance only.

It's probably good speculation. I believe he's been in Tom Sizemore territory for years. A talented actor. Loved him especially in "Short Cuts". He was 40 years old.

While not leading man material, I believe he had the makings of a solid character actor. Too bad he had to go so young.

He was good as the cop with a sense of humor in True Romance, way too young to go.

According to Reuters:

"Medical examiners on Wednesday conducted an autopsy on the 40-year-old actor, who was found dead by a housekeeper, according to Lt. Cheryl MacWillie, a watch commander for the Los Angeles County Coronor's Office. "It appears to be a natural death," MacWillie said. "He died in bed." Examiners were trying to determine if weight was an issue because Penn weighed over 270 pounds...she said there were no signs of foul play or suicide and that further tests were being conducted to determine the exact cause of death."

Well, that right there opens the door to a whole host of heart, circulation & other organ fault/failure issues.
