Gee, $200 for a JL Indy set? I'll sell mine for that! Its the first time I've seen someone else with one of those guarantee's.....mine is still stapled to the BP and my car w/guarantee also came in a INDY set. I wonder if that is the only set they were released in w/the guarantee stapled to the BP, or just coincedence??

that was a total Scam, The winner Bid 3 times and is a new time Bidder.
Most likely it was BS auction. I almost thought the cars were something nice, but didnt look like anything to special to me, its a decent but, seems fishy...

The PM Indy set is not the same as the Topper Indy set...... Kinda like comparing the PM Commemoratives to the originals.....

hmmm.. I think some were confused on this post...this is (or was) an Original Topper track set, right? those guys posting about getting them for $5 and that it was a rip-off were thinking it is one of the Playing Mantis Re-pops? ... and did the orig. cars come in the set- in blister? someone posted that the guarantee is stapled to the card... if so then the cars in the set have already been taken out, right?

...and on that winning bidder, the reason he bid 3 times in the end was to get over the reserve price, right? so I don't see anything unusual about the auction... actually was just putting up an example of what the bidding looks like when someone wants to get above the reserve price on an auction... it's just that this one was a little pricey for me....

This is a completely original set (from Topper).
As far as how they compare, it seems that aside from the nearly Identical appearence, the Playing Mantis reproductions don't seem to hold up well to the abuse that the Topper sets did.
Racing cars at the Lightning Fest, the Playing Mantis actuators took a real beating and had to be replaced. Playing with my original Indy set when I was a kid, I played the living snot out of it and it to this day has held up perfect.
$200.00 for this set (with those common cars)? I'd pay no more than a hundred tops.
Pablo, the 2 cars came both in blister (sometimes cut blisters!) or cellophane baggie for these original LM Topper sets.

About 8 years ago I purchased a Topper Indy set w/2 cars both in blisters. One of the blisters had the guarantee still stapled to the BP. The set in the auction is the first time I've ever seen another guarantee and I just found it interesting that it too was an Indy set.

BTW, I got a steal of a deal on mine on ebay back in '97. $40 for set w/bp cars.

I like to only remember the good deals. There were many cars I also paid through the nose on to later find I could have got a much better deal if I would have just been patient...(or years later ebay drove down the prices) Guess it all evens out in the end.
