I will most likely be singled out here but after all these years the show has progressed to even more meaningless nonsensical storylines. As if it wasn't enough that the show's premise is essentially about 3 sluts who use evil to fight evil. Why is it still on TV? I don't understand what is so good about the show.

LOL! I see your point...but still, that hour should be replaced with something less boring and nonesensical.

I haven't watched the show for quite a while, but I don't recall much behavior that I would define as "slutty."

They use witchcraft/magic to fight evil. Magic = evil only if you're a religious fanatic.

I can understand fantasy. I just don't understand how making a pact with evil will help you fight evil and make you a good person (contradiction).

The premise of the show is total lunacy and plus it's like...really really boring.

and yes witchcraft is good.Witchcraft is good on a case by case basis ..especially when practiced by a hot witch like Elizabeth Montgomery. If it's Fairuza Balk, you might have some twisted up fun, but it will probably end badly. Just like with us mere mortals, the "powers" are neutral, their use determines goodness or evilness (is that a word?).

Pass the eye of newt.

Point well understood John, but in the real world sense witchcraft is pretty much making congress with evil to hurt people and cause mischief. There is no good about it, Never was and to do a show in order to portray what is evil in essence as "good" is evil in itself.

I guess that's why they cast those 3 hot chicks.

Charmed is the sole survivor of the ’90s mini-trend or sub-genre of teen supernatural shows which included Buffy and Sabrina. (Were there any others?) Those shows were all pretty silly, but they're about female empowerment, see? And the responsibility that comes with power. And mainly about hot chicks kicking butt!

I was waiting for someone here to go postal over that one - topic on another site took a very unfortunate turn once religion came up.
Glad to see it didn't happen here :)

I'm sure there are plenty of witches, Wiccans, and neo-pagans who would take issue with that statement! And if you don't take back your words, I'll turn you into a toad!

That's a joke, you know. . .

You obviously never watched Buffy.
Otherwise you wouldn't call it silly.
It was a very good character drama.
Watch the episode "The Body" sometime and tell my how silly it is.

Ok, where do you get making a pact with evil?
In the context of the show, witches were born with the powers. It is all genetic. There are no pacts.
And actually they work for "The Elders" who communicate with them through 'whitelighters'. Who were good people that died honorable deaths and serve as guides for their 'charges'. Basically guardian angels.
In the show, the witches purpose is to protect innocents from demons.

Gee, whole lot of evil going on there

Some people have a pretty narrow perspective. Evil? Pact with the devil? What is it, 1692?

Anyhoo, I think a big part of the show still being on is that the girls themselves produce it. Pretty sure Alyssa Milano carries a good deal of cred in the industry.

Well if one doesn't believe in God and evil how much of a wide perspective can he have? But that's a different issue. All I'm saying is these networks seem to be run by monkeys because schedule air time of shows and some shows themselves being awful. If they booted firefly only after part of a season (as good a show as it was) then why is a show that is so incredibly awful and pointless still running on weeknight primetime? I know I am talking about different networks but this just goes to prove that there actually monkeys running at least some networks.

Oh and By the way...Witches aren't born witches. Witches are real, NOT legends. Blackmagic is real. Witchcraft is real, and again NO, a witch was never born a witch. The way it works is that a person goes ahead and does an extremely awful and hateful act against God and religion. This catches the attention of evil unseen force or spirits known as devils and therefore summons them. They communicate for a while and the devils test the person who wishes to be a witch or a sorcerer. When the devils decides that the person passed the test, they are made a witch or a sorcerer. The power they have does not manifest from within the person but rather from the devils.

What witches do is cast spells on people that they don't like(and that's not a rule because they will do it to anyone they feel like it). They can harm them and sometimes cause their life to be ruined. To be spacific, they cause a wide range or difficulties and harm to a person such as; infertility, calamities like car crashes for example, pains and ailments that will cause you to be unable to work. They can even cause a husband and wife to divorce. Although there is a number of things they do the symptoms of a person who has been bewitched is usually nightmares every night, experiances extreme hate for familiy members and loved ones, short term memory, lithergy, instability, dizziness, pressure in certain areas of the body, numbness, extreme fear...and it goes on and on. How do I know all this you ask? I used to help men of religion expell spirits from victoms of possession and I also helped them break magic spells that were placed on victems. But..again that is a different subject.

Alyssa Milano, 30 years from now:

" I'd just like to say... GET A LIFE, will you people? I mean, for crying out loud, it's just a TV show! I mean, look at you, look at the way you're dressed! You've turned an enjoyable little job, that I did as a lark for a few years, into a COLOSSAL WASTE OF TIME!"

I'm surprised nobody's brought up The Wizard of Oz, yet. Witches, magic, flying demon monkeys, talking apple trees, Judy Garland- true evil.

Witches, magic, flying demon monkeys, talking apple trees, Judy Garland- true evil. :lol:We should be discussing the real evil to which we're all (in the US) being subjected on a near-daily basis: the unspeakably creepy plastic-faced Burger King! He spooks me, and I don't like him! What did they do -- laminate the non-plastic Burger King from the '70s and/or '80s?

It ain't natural, and the early ad where he's standing outside the window when the guy raises the shade -- chills!

I think I remember very early in the series that the "charmed" ones use white magic. Though labled witches, they do not perform "black" magic in league with the Devil. This is why they can work with Angels in the series.

Another reason it hasn't been canceled is that they are using this show as a launching point for other series. Angel got off to a start from this show. I think there was a second but the name of it escapes me at the moment.

I do find it hard to see the rational of you obssesing over a show, you A) Don't watch and B) hate.
I won't even question the "evil, Slut" thing(Thats more a Bill O'Reilly thing), that sounds more like your own issue then anything. If you don't like the show just ignore it because if you honesty can sleep better now then you have slipped your meds.
I don't watch the show, i don't care for the show but I certainly will not waste my life crying over it being on the air.
