Is it mentioned anywhere as to what year King Kong is supposed to take place? I know its set in the depression. The only reason i'm asking is because the Helldiver Bi-planes didnt enter service until 1937.Just curious

I'm thinking that it was probably pre-'39. for no good reason other than The Wizard of Oz came out in late '39 and was being prominantly played in downtown NewYork City ( I think at Radio City Music hall ) I doubt PJ would have over looked that.
sorry , I know that's not much help

I haven't seen the new King Kong (fat lotta' help, eh?).
However, my glimpses at the trailer indicate that the planes are O2C-1 Helldivers which would have started equipping Navy and Marine squadrons circa 1931.
I believe you may be referring to the SBC Helldiver which came about in the mid to late '30's.
Aircraft companies continually recycle names. Curtiss used "Helldiver" on at least three completey different airplanes during a 15 year period.
