Can anyone recommend some 12th scale setups for carpet oval? I'm running an IRS chassis on a small carpet oval track.

I'm interested in springs, oil weights, shims, stagger, etc..
I could not find any web sites with some specific recommendations. (Most web sites describe what the terms mean, or they provide 10th scale settings.)

You could email Dave at IRSAXLES@AOL.com.I am sure he could give you a set up for a "Birds" style flat oval.

There was an earlier post about 1/12th setup ideas, try a search. I'm interested as well on what setups people are using for different tracks. I ordered the IRS conversion myself.

Froont end alingment RF 3 + caster 2 - camber LF 1 + caster 2 - camber, now my car is diffrent I personly like the trinity reflexx12ss but this is how I have all my cars setup they run great. If you guy's dont like the setup I gave you let me know I will change mine 3 or 4 times before the end of the year and I will let you know but I to am getting ready to order the IRS car.

Ideas I had of putting into the newer 1/12th were similar to the 12LW oval I ran (composite craft chassis). Some things will change like three Silva shocks Blue spring (LR) Gold or Red (RR) Silver for center. Tire (Jaco) Dbl Pink LF, Purple RF, White LR, Gray RR. Front springs will probably be Wolfe or the Beefy Products Springs. Shock and wing mounts will be Darkside motorsports. Front castor mount may be AE, Irrgang or Raceway Mfg - may try all three to see which work. T plate will probably end up being the spring steel version.

I may not get it done as soon as I thought, some items have been on back order. So I may pull parts off the car I'm not runnng to get track time, try out with stock motor then go for a setup for 19turn - with wing added.

Katana man ,did you get my e-mail?

Thanks for your responses guys. Highroller, yes, I have searched this forum, and didn't come up with anything. KOZ, yes, I got your email, thank you. I have a few more questions.

Does anyone do rear steer? Would that be beneficial on a small track?

Since the caster blocks come in 0, 5, 10 degrees, how do you do small increments like 2 degrees?

For front and rear track width, is it a good idea to get the left tires as close to the chassis as possible, and extend the right tires as far as possible within the rules?

I also don't have a grip on roll center, and if there is anything we can do in 12th scales to adjust it.

Any further help would be appreciated.

Katana man ,sent you another e-mail, btw don't worry about roll center right now,it's a build thing anyway.

It was a post not too long ago, about someone asking for a general setup tires and such. It may have been in the general discussion forum, or another thread.
With the Zero degree castor block, by placing the two washers in front you gain 2 degrees - usually done only on right side, left side usually one front, one rear for zero castor.

Topic is 1/12 oval??? located about on page 5 in this forum.

Is 2 degrees on the RF common to do?
What about rear steer with the washer(s) under front T-bar pivot ball?
Speaking of the T-bar, should it be the .063" or .075" fiberglass?

Yes, that's the normal set for right front - move the two spacers so both are in front - leave left side as is that's if you are using the zero degree castor blocks.
Rear steer may not offer that much of an advantage in stock or 19turn.
I either use the stock .75, but .63 seems better on carpet (drivers feel) but I'd probably use a standard medium spring steel with mine.

Front end springs might change, along with spring tensions for the shocks.
I'd need track time to finally know what things to change to finally get a good setup under it. Got most of the items yesterday, but next weekend should be finished to be able to get some track time. Plus I'm trying to finish up a 2nd Silva Concepts chassis for 19turn class.

Awesome, thanks!
Any suggestions on track width? Right now, I've got my left wheels in as close as possible, and my right wheels are extended out as far as the rules allow.

If that is a picture of your car I see a couple of minor changes that might have to be done - in stock on most flat tracks if setup is good you should be able to run full throttle probably not right off but sometimes after the second or fifth lap.
Right front try moving the two spacers forward.
Camber left side 1-2 degrees positive Right side 1.5 to 2.5 negative move each front arm as if arm was being compressed when turning - check to see how much of tire surface stays in contact. During cornering tire may have less contact - car tends to push adjust the camber so you tire make full contact - adjust camber as tire wears.

On 1/10th chassis on flat tracks by changing to an offset pod arrangement if helps car to turn and exit corners smoothly. By spacing out the right rear it should aid in car turning better. Again try it without and with the extra spacers to see how it effects the car. Don't throw all these things in at once, try one thing first, run a few laps 1-2 minutes bring it in try another change (keep notes on change) run 1-2 more minutes.
I like to run in minutes instead a set number of laps, car may only run a certain way when tires are cold, but change as they get a couple minutes run into them - but if setup is off from the start it handle at all.
