I gotta admitt though,as much as I love the POTA Series,This Ape Head is a little Uh Strange lookin' But it's got real rooted hair Still....I already have the Evolution Boxset and a seperate Behind the Scenes DVD But If you want the TV Series and the Seldom seen Animated Apes it's WELL worth the Hundred Bananas I think.

Brent Gair 01-18-2006, 11:16 AM The main point (in my opinion) is that the ape sequels have finally been remastered with anamorphic transfers. I wouldn't buy the old letterbox transfers because I just don't buy non-anamorphic widescreen DVDs.
Fortunately, these will all be available separately.
I really like the ape head. However, like most ape fans, I've already got the TV series and the original movie on disc.
sbaxter 01-18-2006, 01:45 PM I really like the ape head. The eyes, man; look at the eyes! I swear they follow you!

Zombie_61 01-18-2006, 06:57 PM The eyes, man; look at the eyes! I swear they follow you!It does kinda look like Roddy McDowall/Caesar though, doesn't it?

Oh no Lloyd, I'm 96% Sure you can buy JUST the Animated Primates,As A matter of fact I believe I saw them at a Suncoast type place called F.Y.E here in CT.
I'd check Amazon Oh wait maybe that's the Old Series (Live Action) Sorry BUT I think another Article Mention there being Seperate DVD's To be availible later. But I know how ya' feel on the Plus side I had Bought the "Behind the Apes" DVD In A Box from Image Entertainment And I got the Same one with the "Evolution" Boxset BUT I later discovered the 2 Disc "Image Entertainment" Version has some Nice Extras that aren't on the Evolution one or the 35th Anniv. Version of the First Film.

Lloyd Collins 01-19-2006, 12:38 AM I also got the Image Ent. version. I do hope that they release the animated later this year. As for the ape head, it won,t fit my video shelf. Just like the Cylon box of TOS BSG. I want the videos, not the junk.
After I posted this, I went to www.tvondvd.com and saw that a strong rumor has the animated set is coming. :hat:
Matthew Green 01-19-2006, 10:28 PM It's funny...I recorded ALL of the Planet of the apes movies a few years ago and never watched them...Well...The original movie is GREAT. Good stuff. I just started on the sequel today. About half way through it. I wonder what happens to Taylor.
Does the television show AND the animated cartoon follow any of the storylines?
jheilman 01-19-2006, 10:39 PM Don't really remember the animated show.
The TV show has a similar plot to the first movie but all new characters. It's not nearly as brutal as the film—nor as deep. There are two surviving astronauts who are captured and freed with the help of a sympathetic chimpanzee named Galen played by Roddy McDowall. (there was mention of a surgeon named Galen in the first film and there was a famous surgeon named Galen in ancient Rome - probably not a coincidence) They are all on the run in a format that's similar to "The Fugitive" and "Incredible Hulk" TV shows. In this incarnation, humans can all talk and, while considered a lower class, they seem to be nearly as advanced as the apes.
It's a show geared for kids, but not without merit. And, for those of us old enough to remember watching it, the nostalgia value alone makes it a must-buy.
AFILMDUDE 01-19-2006, 11:55 PM Anybody remember this?

Lloyd Collins 01-20-2006, 01:18 AM The animated series, had three astronants, two men and a woman. The apes lived in large cities, and drove cars, trucks, and even fly a plane. The astronants of course helped the humans, and picked on the nice apes. Ok, bad apes!
The live series had no characters from the movies. I liked the series, and Mark Lenard as a gorilla, not bad.
jheilman 01-20-2006, 01:45 AM Wasn't Zaius in the series? Have to pull out the DVDs again. Probably a different character performing the same authoritative functions as Zaius.
Lloyd Collins 01-20-2006, 02:30 AM ^^ You maybe right. I need to watch it again. But check it out, and tell us.
lonfan 01-20-2006, 09:30 AM Yeah It was an Actor Named Booth Colman in the Zaius Role on the Series. And the other Gorilla Soldier "Urko" was portrayed by Spock's Dad (TOS) Sarek,Mark Lenard. Urko was Kinda based on the "Ursus" Soldier Ape seen in "Beneath" (and my fave primate in the whole series!) played by James Gregory (also seen in TOS) lol Heck we got another "Kevin Baccon" Game goin' here! lol Anyhoo The Series seemed to be geared towards the Youngsters (Well that woulda been me then! I was 9 lol) So don't expect the Stimulating Thought Based Sci-Fi Stories from the Earlier Films. Hey just thought of another Connection: Marc Singer of "V" was on the POTA series as a Young guy,He was a Human. So now can we connect Marc Singer to Star Trek? Hmmmm I think I'm on to something here:)

Richard Compton 01-21-2006, 09:07 AM Years ago I bought an autographed photo of Dr. Zaius online not paying enough attention to realize it was the TV series Zaius.....sigh, I was mightily disappointed.
Trek Ace 01-21-2006, 09:23 AM It's too little too late for me. If they had come out with the anamorphic of the sequel DVDs earlier, I would have bought them. But, now I will be holding out for the HD release on Blu-Ray disc.
I am to the point now where I have decided that I will simply wait for the hi def stuff to be released on a number of titles that are forthcoming. Most of the anamorphic transfers that are made for DVD titles are being mastered in HD, anyway. So, it is just a matter of time. The Star Trek films have already been announced for later this year, as well as some new, upcoming release titles, like Superman Returns for the fall. The Apes movies will probably be announced fairly soon for Blu-Ray HD disc release, if they haven't been already.
Can't wait for this spring/summer when this stuff starts rolling out!
Mitchellmania 01-23-2006, 02:23 PM Heck, I'm buying it just for the head alone and the cartoon series!
lonfan 01-23-2006, 07:00 PM Hey Forgive my ignorance but WHAT is this Blu-Ray you guys speak of? and while we're at it, What's this new "PSP" (I think that's the Name) ALL I know is I've seen PSP (?) at some DVD Stores and they look like Smaller Discs (With a BIGGER PRICE) We've only had DVD in our home for the last Two Years, now it looks as though we're gonna get hosed again like I did back in 1981 when I bought a RCA Select A Vision The Large Laser Disc System Where the Disc Came in a Protective Plastic Case(You never touched the Disc) and you Stuck it into the Player,Halfway through you'd have to get up and Turn it over But I couldn't believe how Dirt Cheap I got it for,$99.00 in 1981 and I got "Dirty Harry" "Enter The Dragon" And "Used Cars" for $10.00 apiece Course THREE WEEKS LATER ...Gone My Local Video store Acted like they'ed never herd of the Select A Vision GRRRRRRRR I hope this isn't gonna happen with DVD's I've already seen Blockbuster Discontinue VHS Tapes (And lemmie Tell Ya' I'm Hording them) I was able to Buy ALL The Planet Of The Apes Films on VHS a Buck a Piece at Goodwill And Even Though I have the DVD's I got them Just in case. lol

Trek Ace 01-23-2006, 08:30 PM Blu-Ray is the new High Definition disc format introduced by Sony which debuts later this spring. It is one of two new, rival and incompatible HD disc formats. The other of which is called HD-DVD, introduced by Toshiba (think VHS vs. Beta).
The Sony Blu-Ray has the superior specs and storage capacity between the two, and is supported by more movie studios than the HD-DVD format. So, (nearly) everybody's betting that it will be no contest, and Blu-Ray will be come out on top (this is also my opinion).
For the past several years, most film transfers for DVD masters were accomplished on Panasonic D-5 HD machines and then down-converted to standard definition tape for DVD replication. With thousands of HD masters of film titles available and waiting in the wings, it will be relatively inexpensive to offer the same titles in a timely manner on the new HD disc formats.
Since the Apes films are all Fox releases and have been mastered on HD tape, and Fox is a staunch supporter of the Blu-Ray HD disc format, it will no doubt be sooner than later that these titles will be showing up in the new disc format.
Matthew Green 01-24-2006, 12:32 AM Am almost finished watching the Planet of the Apes sequel, Beneath the planet of the apes...
What the HECK went wrong? Victor Bueno having mental powers? WEIRD! I don't like it at all. The first half was decent....but this....I hope the rest aren't like this crap.
lonfan 01-24-2006, 01:05 AM Aw Matt- You Hurt My Heart.See Beneath is my Fave But to each his own Lol Well Then Don't expect Much from the Rest they Went Kinda Down hill as the Producers wanted to Venture Less and less money on the Sequels. If You Have or can get the "Behind The POTA" Documentry, It explains this in more detail. Most hardcore Fans (myself included) Will usually Agree that #5 (called Battle For The....) Was the worst BUT even that one has it's moments,And ya' gotta think about this, At the end of "Beneath" (I hope I'm not giving Anything Away here lol) Anyhoo, At the End The Earth is Destroyed,Well Thinking "That Takes Care Of That" Arthur Jaccobs was Requested by Zanuck (head of Fox and Nova's Boyfriend Lucky Bastard!) To come up with a third "Apes" Script So as the Documentry explains,The Filmmakers were stumped as to where they could Possibly go from the end of Beneath so they came up with Cornelius and Zira and a third Chimp Milo,Finding and repairing Taylor's Ship from the Original Film. They then used it to get BACK through the Time Warp to 1972 or 73' Anyhoo, that is the Plot for the Third Film "Escape From The POTA" and while back here Nowadays the Talking Chimps Have a Child Also played By Roddy his name will be Ceaser in Number Four Called "Conquest Of The Yada Yada" lol As a Kid I Didn't really like any but the 1st and 2nd I thought the 3rd was a bore BUT as an adult it was less corny and a touch sad(I won't spoil it for ya' but I'll Say The Evil Dr. Hasslien Decides that the Two Apes Should be Killed before they can create a POTA!) So The Thing that is Amazing about this Series of Films (to Me) is that if you watch all Five You'll see that the Story is actually A Full Circle! Yeah see in Battle For... We see the Ancestors of Mutant Leader "Mendez" this Fifth Film takes place 600 or so Years before the Events in Beneath took place! So it's NOT the same guy from Beneath,Instead it's these Mutants that Wear Black army Uniforms and have just a little of the Radiation Burns that cause them to wear the Masks. Also these Guys Haven't Developed the Mental Powers seen in the Second Film. Also an interesting Scene CUT from this Fifth Movie is a Scene in which the Head Mutant tells his Female Soldier About how If They Don't Come Back She Should Activate The Doomsday Weapon. This is the Same Warhead (Alpha Omega) That is in Beneath. So In Summation All I'm saying is it's interesting to see how Continuity was so well kept Through FIVE Films when the Writers were really just pulling the Plots from outta their As....well you get my Point lol Hey Even the Universal Classics didn't take as much care to explain how The Wolfman could keep commimg back when he was Clearly killed in the Last Movie! lol I'd say it was quite an acomplishment at the time and Make-up that STILL holds up aginist this Modern CGI Crap. But hey as you can tell I'm just a causual Fan so I could be wrong! lol
I'm almost Forty So soon I'll be complaing bout' that Loud Music you kids listen to as well! lol
John/Lonfan:thumbsup: Just Watch em' all Once
Matthew Green 01-24-2006, 03:19 AM Going from your descriptions...I might as well throw my recorded tape away....Oh my gosh....I'll finish this one...But I don't think I'll watch the rest.
Any other GOOD movies from decades ago, please recommend me to it.
Richard Compton 01-24-2006, 05:21 AM Quintet, by Robert Altman.
....just kidding!
Lloyd Collins 01-24-2006, 02:43 PM The Ape DVD set, forget it. Why spend more money to get another set of movies, and TV series? I want the cartoon, and since the cartoon is rumored to be released later in it's own set, I will wait. As for the head, sure as a fan it would be nice , but It is not worth the money.
Lloyd Collins 01-24-2006, 05:39 PM New update on the cartoon Ape series. Coming as a single disc March 28, retail $19.95.
When I get it, my collection will be complete.
lonfan 01-25-2006, 08:36 AM The Ape DVD set, forget it. Why spend more money to get another set of movies, and TV series? I gotta Agree Lloyd.Oh and Matthew, A "Good" Movie from Decades Past lol Is really kind of Subjective,I mean I think that SHAFT is a Classic Action Film from The Past But there are many who could care less. I LOVE "Psychotronic" Films from The 30's Through the Early 80's! Films like The Incredible Melting Man,Escape From New York ,The Wasp Woman,Sharkey's Machine (A burt Reynolds Cop Movie that I think For it's Time 1981,Was as good as Burt ever got!) Godzilla Films (I look at Cheesy Zilla Movies like some Watch the Old Batman Show With a Campy sense of Fun) BUT if you want to watch GOOD Films from the Recent Past (god I feel old) Films that were Universally Popular or at least Mainstream Try for a sweeping Love Story,: "Somewhere In Time" with Chris Reeve & the always Beautiful Jane Seymour,Uh If you want a Comedy Check out Mel Brooks One of My All Time Faves, "History Of The World Part One" (There was no Pt. 2 But a Hilarous Preview for it at the end of Pt 1) Uh "Soylet Green" Also With Check Heston might be your Cup of Tea (Sci-Fi) I liked "The Andromeda Strain" alot Clint Had ALOT of Good Stuff in the 70's From Dirty Harry to His Ghostly Western "High Plains Drifter" and the the Film that Inspired "Fatal Attraction",Clint's "Play Misty For Me". On my list as My number 3 Favorite Film of All Time Check out the 1980 Flash Gordon with Sam Jones and Max Vonsydow as Ming, But be warned it was Written by one of the old Batman TV show Writers so it maybe Corny to you. I Think 2010 was a Well made sequel to the now Super Classic 2001 but on the other side of the Coin, I never found "Logan's Run " to be of any intrest to me yet it's got a HUGE following just goes to show ya' Different Strokes For Different folks" or as the Vulcans Believe "IDIC" "One Mans Trash.... lol Hell even "Xannadu" with Olivia Newton John is Great Fun for me (Hey I like ELO)lol
In the End it's all up to you...Speaking of , "The End" is a funny film too!
