View Full Version : Track applied traction enhancers
racer34v 01-16-2006, 12:01 PM we run pan cars in my pole barn and right now we have som carpet laid down but its a hassle (plus its not the right stuff) i was wondering what options there were to increase the traction of the cement? how about some beach sand finely dusted under a coat of sealer or paint?
i dont want to use coke sryup (to messy)
thanks

irvan36mm 01-16-2006, 01:03 PM Before our track was repaved w/new asphalt,we used to use asphalt sealer. It was similar to your beach sand idea. If you like the barn floor colored black, this would probably be the way to go.

Billy W 01-16-2006, 01:12 PM racer34, that would work for a short time..... sand and sealer, after a couple days of racing the groove would loose the sand... this was done to a track before.... the cheapest thing to do is use Sugar water... mix water wtih sugar and put it in a cheap garden sprayer..... the mosre suger the more grip.... plus it's easy clean up.. mop and a bucket full of water.... also you can get VHT traction treatment and spray it down that will work as weell but it cost a round $12- $15 a gallon... but you can make5 gallons from one by cutting it with methonal.... just like they use for drag racing....
THen there is the old standby of sparying a mist of Coke... not pepsi on the ground and it makes a good bit of tracktion as well....

burbs 01-16-2006, 04:45 PM we have our track professionally sealed about every 2-3 years.. It last at least 2 years, The first year the track is slightly slower due to the high grip.. then it hits a sweet spot and the cars get really fast.. then it starts to lose traction again.. I would thik with foams it would last alot longer. we run rubber caps..
The sealer is rated on grip like sandpaper.. just make sure not to use to agressive of a sealer..tire wear changes a ton.. we use to get a few weeks out of a set of caps, now most guys get close to a whole season on a set of tires..

If your floor has been "Power troweled" (sp?) (Smooth) We used NON SKID FLOOR WAX, it works really well, and sometimes your tires will squeel :jest: We loved it.

for awhile we used that at a small time track near me we raced on a basket ball floor man when it wore off it was like watching pan cars turn in to late models but when it was fresh we ran 6 cell stock and did not have to lift and the track was shorted than 130 run line
WhirlinGraphics 01-16-2006, 10:49 PM The most permanent method would be using a glossy clear cement sealer. Basically painting the floor. Use some Paragon (or similar) traction compound on your foams and a 'groove' will develop in no time.

racer34v 01-17-2006, 06:03 AM awesome, thanks for the input, yes its been power troweled, where did you get the non skid floor wax at?
thanks again

The Jet 01-17-2006, 09:13 PM Of course I can't remember, sorry.
Try Wallmart, Kmart, somewhere like that.
Good luck.

You might try doing a search for industrial cleaning products,it should get you something.
racer34v 01-17-2006, 10:23 PM i googled it and there are alot of other options out there.... i'm thinking about http://www.deltachemicals.com/nonskid.html... but i dont know... its 50 bucks and covers 125sq ft
thanks

SDL98 01-18-2006, 12:03 AM If it is a really slick smooth floor when I first started racing we coated out tires with a 3m silicone sealer and it worked real well. Used some old soft compound tires that wasn't too special. put them in a drill press to turn as applied with a bondo spreader til smooth came out like a capped tire. It was some of the most fun racing I've evr done. they got real good bite but you had to keep the dust off the track. But if the surface is rough it would prob just tear them up.
andyPa 01-18-2006, 02:16 AM same here worked well anyone ever use TNT i think that is what it's called use to soften tires came in a little dropper bottle i think i might have been like simple green not sure
