Now I warn you, and I'm serious here, open the album marked 'gunshot wound' at your own peril, it's exactly what it says it is. Part of a photo essay I did about a gunshot wound I recieved 12/06/04 during a taxi robbery.
You've been warned!!!!!!!!!
Hope you like my customs.
John
pms485 01-12-2006, 12:32 AM They really do look like junk (in a good way). :) Those are great! The gun shot wound is not! :drunk:
Swifty 01-12-2006, 12:35 AM Those are extremely nice (for beaters).
DarkestLove 01-12-2006, 12:52 AM Very nice. I love the "beater" look. I like the display as well. Is that S scale?
Also, I went ahead and checked out your real cars pics. I like those too.

stupidsquirrels 01-12-2006, 01:05 AM I think I enjoyed doing the beaters more than any of the others I can remember, of course I hadn't done a custom in nearly 2 years prior to starting on the beaters, work kept me away from the workbench, then recuperating from the bullet wound is still ongoing . Now I've done over 2 dzn of these in about 6 weeks, I'm planning a junkyard diorama.
I have trouble with power tools now, (the vibration plays hell with my hand, plus I've lost 80% use of that hand, Luckily I'm right handed).
I did all the beaters with out disassembly, the two 47 coe's were disassembled but are held together with screws so no vibe issues with taking them apart.
I'm glad you like them.

Thanks for the pix! rr
Lpgeoteacher 01-12-2006, 10:45 AM How can you do such nice work with one hand? I've got two and can't do that well!
stupidsquirrels 01-12-2006, 02:03 PM How can you do such nice work with one hand? I've got two and can't do that well!
I'm an idiot savant:lol:.
The thumb and index finger still work properly,+ I'm right handed, I hold the car in my left hand(fingers) and do the work with my right.
Aside from that, I simply do it over & over & over(& Over,etc.,etc.), until I get the look I'm after.
Also, never underestimate the occasional happy accident, The Chevelle wagon looks like it does in part because I started handling it to put the wheels back on too soon after I sprayed the Dullcote. I liked the look, so I sprayed another coat over it and left it alone.

I'm terribly pleased that y'all like them, thanks,

Bugzy 01-12-2006, 07:56 PM ..great PIPs pics..! thanks for sharing them...!
...good job on the 65 Chevy C10
...seems like I have seen a real one like this around town...!
flyin'68bird 01-12-2006, 11:22 PM Nice PIP's. Good job.
NWovalfan 01-13-2006, 01:57 AM Great job on those PIPs! Beautiful. That Dub COE just hit the pegs around here, neat to see you have already snagged and customized one. Checked out your albums: that green '64 Galaxie really threw me at first. Its an old Racing Champions stock car, right? Really looks good as a street machine. That hand looks painful!

You are correct on all counts.
It is the old RC Galaxie 500 stock car casting, I filed off the trim to make it a Custom 500 (I love that RC cast the trim on the car), did that one about 3 years ago to replicate my neighbor's Custom 500 lowrider (HW gold 'lace' wheels being the closest thing to wire wheels that I had at the time).
There was an awful lot of pain involved, you are oh so correct, even a year later there is a constant pain that I've pretty much learned to ignore, plus the occasional muscle spasm and the joy of arthritis, big, mean arthritis with sharp teeth and a bad attitude. Sorry I didn't mean to start down that road, Whew that was a close one!!
Glad you like 'em,
John
NWovalfan 01-13-2006, 02:48 AM John, just wondering.... which end of the taxi robbery were you on? Just kidding!
