Here is some humor: I am going with new colors this year, but don't worry. My truck will still be white in the rear, that way you know who passed you......again......and again......and again.....oh what, there goes Jerry.....again!

LOL!

WOW.... that is a good one.

You guys both run truck or buggy? If truck then I will be in the middle of the passing, crashing and lapping.

What is the phone number of the hobbyshop so I can call to see when they are open and get directions?

Any other tracks around now to run during the winter that are indoor maybe?

Looks like it will eb a fun filled racing season at Medina if the weather and people work out.

Here is the number for R/C Hobby. 330-723-0255. The man that you will talk should be Larry. He is there everytime I am in there. Who knows, maybe it might be Bill or Chris.

As for as other tracks, well, there is CRCRC in Columbus, and there is a track in Jefferson. The thread for that track in the Ashtabula thread. That is them.

Buggy class was not that big of a class last year. Sometimes they ran mod with stock, or stock with the novice. Truck is the big class out there, with aleast two heats. Alot of fast guys in the truck class.

Joe,

I'll take care of your questions over here on this thread.

No, I am not with Team Short Bus anymore. As with life, things change, and too much change happened with the Team last year. This year I am running for myself.

As for batts. I don't think there is any rule for using 3800s that I know of, and I don't know if anyone ran them last year. I plan on buying some killer 3300s and go from there. From what i hear, you really have to watch 3800s, they over heat really fast, and if they do, they are toast. Again, that is what I hear, I really don't know.

Hey, Guys good to see everyone getting pumped for '06
I am too,

the Jefferson track seams so far away to club race, but I've been there a few times and had a good time. I got so spoiled in CA, having so many great tracks near by, Can't wait til spring

I normally run nitro, but picked up a 10th buggy from a buddy of mine, I'll have to bring it with me just for giggles

Cya'll soon,,, Happy new year

Fantom

I run stock truck and 2 wheel stock buggy. 3800's are only good for big races, you can't bring them to zero or zapp them. So the internal resistence will build up fast. www.brahmaracingproducts.com and www.teamorion.com make the best packs.

Looks as if we have some friendly competition going on. I will be a solo cat like Jerry also - "Back To Basics Racing".

Will be good to see most of us running stock truck.

I guess I am one of the few that will be running the Midwest race - I will tell you guys how great it was when I come back. Should have a trophy or two - yeah....

I hope to do well in stock truck and 4wd open. Get to see if the hype about brushless in 4wd is worth the cash. From what it sounds a few running it down there have smoked the lrp and novak set-ups.

Well - we wait to here from the race directors at the track.

I think the jefferson track is like 2.5 hours from me - now that is a long haul compared to Avon Lake.

I may run out there once or twice before spring though. Going to tour the tracks within about 4 hour range for the winter for variety and support of their tracks.

Take it easy and have a Happy New Year!!!!!

I have been looking at Orion packs, as well as EA Motorsports. I really don't know yet, I guess we will see when we get closer to racing.

With 3800, you can't put them on a tray? What do you do with them, you charge them, run them, then let them sit? I am sure they have killer punch, but they seem like alot of work. Something to remember, it gets pretty hot at the track, we where in the 90's at times, so you batteries are already at 90. From what I hear, you shouldn't let them go over 120 degrees. They will top that easily on a hot day, even if you have a fan on them. I think that they are to much work for club races.

If anyone hears of any killer packs in the next month or so, post here and let us know!

Later guys,
Jerry

Fantom

You can only tray them to .4 volts. Atleast it's better than nothing though.

HookupsXXX4

I think that I will just stick with 3300s. I am going to shop around, and I am thinking that I might get four packs from four diffrent companies. Pick out the best two for racing and the other two for practice.

Mark-I don't know if you are your brother tried Maxamps packs after Medina, If you guys did, did you have any luck with them? I got a couple packs from them before I went to RAC in Pittsburgh, they ran fine there. Once I got them a carpet, they went down hill. I had my 12th scale geared as high as I could, and after a run, I put them on the Turbo and had only 27 sec. of run time left. I couldn't gear any higher. If I did I was scared of dumping. I think Mike was having the some problem.

Jerry

Fantom

Dead short them, if that doesn't work Maxamps zapping process is f*ucked up. We don't get anything from them, David has a sponsorship from them but he only buys Lipo packs. I can get matched packs for the same price as maxamps nonmatched packs are. www.brahmaracingproducts.com

HookupsXXX4
12-30-2005, 09:43 PM
I don't know if dead shorting them will work. Maxamps in is a messed up company. On there web site, they guarantee 1.18s, that is a lie. I have never seen a cell from them come out 1.18. We ran tests on cells from them, the first batch we got, was 1.15. That was the best we had! What is that? A good practice pack at best! Marty sent them back, and we got more cells. They ran good for a while, but like I said, they went down hill....WAY to fast.

I am just going to look around and buy some killer 3300s, I might go back to SMC.

Jerry

Fantom
12-30-2005, 10:50 PM
Get Brahma packs or Orion. I have tested with all of them and They have been the best. I have had SMC, they are ok for power but the life of the pack is a lot longer than any other ones I have tried. But Orion have more punch.

HookupsXXX4
12-30-2005, 11:13 PM
I think that I am going to go with Orion, I have hear alot of good things about the packs they sell. I still would like to go back to SMC. The packs I had last year where killer, I just beat the S*#t out of them. Thanks Mark, you do know your batts.

I have been running powerpush cells and they are fast as hell, TJ and I have gotten pretty good at building motors as well. This summer will be so much fun. The coors must be flowing.A few weeks ago you asked me if you were still a member of short Bus racing. I said yes since you were a founding member. Now i read that you are no longer a member do to to many changes that took place last year. May i remind you that you were the one who threw Mike out of short Bus " he is just to Negitive" all the other changes that were made were positive ones. We ( TJ and I ) let in some new members and we have a great time at the gate every WED,FRI and SUN. As for passing us on the track, Well have to see about that. Marty TEAM short BUS

You know, I was just having a little on the boards and you have to take everything the wrong way. Yes, awhile ago, back when we started going to the Gate I did still want to be in short bus, but things change. It wasn't fun anymore. Now, I will remind you, that you are the one that said Mike was out, cuz he brought your name up when Mike and Jay had a misunderstanding. I was the one that had the dirty work. Mike and I have patched things up, and if you don't like it, or that fact I don't want to be on you team anymore, then I don't know what to tell you. I am going to Medina this year with a diffrent out look on things, one of them is just to have fun. I think I can speak for Mike on that one as well. When I posted about passing you and stuff, that was all in fun. Take a joke will ya. If you have anymore to say about this matter, PM me, I will not reply to any negative posts about this, I don't want this thread to turn into the first thread we had for Medina. They are just R/C cars...

Hey Cam,

Great see that that you are getting in to racing.

The season I think will start in late April or May. All depends what the weather is like.

What kit do you plan a getting? There is a Ready-To-Run XXXT and then there is the pro-kit. I don't know how long you have been in the hobby, but the RTR kit might be your best bet if you are just now getting into R/C. It is a great truck if you are getting into the sport. You get a really good radio with it as well.

Also, you will need aleast two good race packs. You will also need packs to practice with also. A decent charger is not a bad idea as well. I wouldn't worry about all the high dollor stuff right away, but make sure you buy stuff that is decent, and will last. A good set of tools, you never know when you might have to fix some thing.

Also, we race outside, so you will need to bring a table and a chair. You will need a cord so you can tap into power. Oh, a table light, we don't get out of there until 11 or 12 at night.

Hope I helped out a little, if you have anymore questions, ask away! This is the place to do it, there are a lot of guys that will help you here and at the track.

i've had a e-stampede since last june and loved it... i've been to the track 2 or 3 times and drove around,i soon learned that e- stampede tires are not ment for racing on that surface.i picked up a set of losi step spike tires i think, for the back, whould the front tires on the rustler be good for medina's track? on a stampede. as for my xxx-t i was looking for a kit but i just saw the rtr. i stopped up at the track once and saw them racing i wached it was a nitro race they all had tents would you recommend this for a sunny day. well thx for details o ya should i go in a novice class with my stampede or what

HookupsXXX4
01-02-2006, 05:23 PM
Cam,

Yeah a tent would also be a good idea. They help alot, just to get out of the sun. Man, we had our share of hot days there.

If you are just starting in racing, yeah novice class would be where you want to start. The novice class is kinda big down there, I think they would have least 8 in novice it times.

Good idea on going with a kit. That way if you have to fix something, you already know your way around the truck.

As far as the tires go, I don't know what is on the stampede, but I run IFMAR Pins (Red) in the rear. As far as up front, you are just going to have to play around with diffrent sets, find what feels right for you.

Glad to see some positive postings on the link - on the most part.

We need to get as many new racers out as we can and show a positive attitude. If we say that track is the best in the area - then we have to make it that way.

I have a buddy I am talking into coming and running novice this year so there will be another new racer. Of course he will be running some of my old gear so he should do good! LOL......

New Year - New Outlook for all. Spring is right around the corner along with racing!

Too bad not many of us are going down to the Midwest race. I will have a ball representing myself down there. Film footage and pics to be taken while I am down there also.

Is Chris even in existance anymore? I know lots of us want to help out in various ways and he needs to know that. Not seen much from the master racer.

Would really like to help him get the website updated and current.

Jerry - get with me on balancing your tires and motors. Gonna run on my B-Day somewhere so get with me if interested.

Cam

HookupsXXX4

Cam,

A race day goes like this. You will get 3 qualifing rounds. During those 3 rounds you are running aganist the clock. Even though there are other guys out there with you, you all are on your own 5 minute race. You are trying to do as my laps as you can in those five minutes.

After the 3 rounds, we go to the Mains. They take your best round time and that is where you would start on the grid. Say, you turned 7 laps in 5 minutes 23 sec. and the guy in front of you might have turned 7 laps in 5 minutes and 18 secs, so he would start a place in front of you. When the horns blows, it is then a race to the finish. The Mains are really the only REAL race of the day so to speak.

The points system, I think they just give you points for what you finish in the Mains. First is 100, then I think it goes to 99, or 90, I don't really remember. They have so many days that are points runs. You when know when it is a points run.

I think I covered it all...

Take us to rc racing school Jerry!!!!!!! A little time off has made all that rc knowledge surface - glad your sharing!!!

A wealth of information - might have to get you a lucrative? book deal and get it published.

A good idea is to maybe do a generalization of a bunch of rc stuff and racing information and have Hankster post it as a sticky for all to read!

Call it "Newbies 101 - A guide to getting the most rc pleasure" and this is not meaning self gradification!

Good information for the newbies - and older guys like me.

35 is 4 days away - were the heck did the time go and all the fun????? All it is sleep, eat, work and spend money.......
