Hi,

I have a twin Vanguard 16hp 303447 running a carpet cleaning machine.
Just recently I have not been able to reach top RPM's. I can only
reach 2k rpm. It runs on both cylinders.

I have been told that it could be a coil problem and I have others
telling me its a carb problem.

Has anyone ever come across this before?

Many thanks

Paul.

its not a coil if both cylinders are firing, i'd start with the carb first, the high speed jet may be clogged.

does it run rough ? throttle cable might have slipped or the choke might be not opening

Thanks for the replies. I took off the carb cleaned it and started her up again and still have the problem. I have fuel blowing out of the carb chamber. I have checked the float and it seems to be working OK.

Runs fine apart from not reaching revs and fuel blowing from carb intake

Am I missing something?

you've checked also what scrench suggested? could be a possibility the cable slipped.

Yes I have checked all linkages and they are fine.

i would probally take off the valve covers and look @ the rocker arms have seen a few 16's break rocker arms but it could have fouled a plug from flooding , if its spitting back out of the carburator something is not right , put some new rc-12- yc spark plugs in it and make sure its not flooding , if its spitting out of the carburator ,,, the first thing i would do is take the valve covers off and make sure the rocker arms are right ,

one of the valves could be burnt.......
