Hi,
I am new to this forum, I have read alot of the topics and can't find the information so this is my problem.
I have a old B&S 8Hp on my Toro snowblower. This seems to be a flow-jet carb. There is no electric starter on it. When I try to start the engine, it wont start. The only thing that I can do to make the engine start is to remove the spark plug and pour a little bit of gas in the hole and after that the engine will start and run almost fine (almost because sometimes I have to pour a little more gas with the same procedure). Any ideas ? since there is no electric starter and no gas primer it is very difficult to start without pain ;)
Thank you,
Pierre-Paul

Hi Bugman !
Thank you for the reply. I guess (because I have just buy this one for a human cause) that it could be between 1980 to 1985. I did go to the toro website and the model is like the 38150 just not sure about the year since I didn't find any iddentification on the body. Some part was changed by a retailer as the previous owner told me and the high speed screw seems to be new. I didn't take it apart yet but like I said, when i pour a little bit of gas direcly in the spark plug hole I could run the engine. Something maybe important that I forgot... Full choke.
Thank you very much !

you can find out from the code on the engine's shroud (if its the original shroud) how old it is. say the code is 02031801
02 is the year, 03 is the month, 18 is the day, 01 is the assembly line and plant it was made. still sounds like a carb problem, its easy to get a rebuild kit and rebuild the carb, almost all engines need to be choked to start easy. either automatically or manually.

Hi Again,
This is the infos for the motor:
190402-0812-C1
74090 611
The funny thing is that if I start the motor, everything goes fine exept for a bad gas odor and that the choke is almost down.
BTW, is any repair manual exist (maybe in pdf) for this type of engine/carb ?
Many thank's,
Pierre-Paul

yeah, carb rebuild, no repair manuals, unless you buy em from briggs, they do have illustrated parts and owners manuals. just have your model, type, and code when you go to a small engine shop, should be able to get a rebuild kit.
as for the bad gas odor.....does it leak gas everywhere? check the float

Thank you Bugman ! I really appreciate it !
I will go for a carb rebuild... That's my first flow-jet that I will rebuild. The last one was a tecumseh float model (pretty easy!) But I am just a little bit scared about rebuilding this type of carb. Maybe for manuals I will look on Ebay. Sometime we can find good deals.
I will let you know when it will be done.
Many many thanks and happy new year to All !!
