I just got some info on the NEW Corvette bad boy. Its going to be called the SS. It will have a LS9 Engine that is supercharged putting out over 600+ HP. The LS9 is going to be a smaller Displacement then the LS7. This car is planned to be released in 2008. There will also be a LS8 Corvette too.

I just love this as the 2006 505HP Z06 is already the Viper killer and then soon after Dodge Releases there 600+ HP Viper, Corvette will whip them again.

the new Z06 kills the viper.... in the turns. the viper still pretty muchs remains the king of straight lines, the street version wasnt meant to be a le mans car. and just tell me how its gonna whip the viper again if its most likely gonna make a little more HP that the Z06? i'm not trying to start a debate here, i'm just not getting my mopars insulted like that. :)

Your right I dont want to get myself worked up on this, as I kinda go off and I almost got myself kicked last time. The Viper is a good car, I will leave it at that. Im not trying to knock anything. Ive just seen first hand the NEW 2006 505HP Z06 outrun the 500HP viper. Over and Over again. Of course my buddies 2002 Lingenfelter danced circles around both of them. Since HP is pretty much the same, its the weight thing Im guessing. (just guessing as I know very little about the viper, other than it costs more than the Vett, so HP to money ratio the Vett wins again). The rarity of the Viper is better but thats only b/c there are normal Vetts out there too. There isn't a 300HP family Viper otherwise it would be more common.

Im trying to keep this simple and not cause any problems, I only know stuff about the Vetts and what i have seen first hand. Nothing more. Everyone has different opinions.

One question though? How come everyone I know thats owned a Viper and has drove it for what it was ment to be driven always have problems with them braking down? My father and I was talking about it awhile back how he read this article that compaired the Vett to the Viper and they couldn't even complete all the tests b/c the Viper kept braking down?

actually, the vette killed the viper in 4 out of the 5 main categories according to a car and driver test.

Gets 16/26mpg vs. 12/20mpg for the Viper.
and only cost $20,000 less

tenths of a second still means you win..... and for $20k less... the Viper is overrated and overpriced, the Vette is about at the right spot, the GTO is just butt ugly but priced cheap and the new Shelby Mustang will be even more of a bargain than the Vette

3 tenths of a second faster in the 1/4 is a lot to someone who drag races. ;) the gap only gets bigger for the rest of the stuff. i know if i could get so much more for for 20k less, i'd do it!

Also to note, The Viper cant even come close to hangin with a 2001 Camaro ZL1.

Also as a friend of mine pionted out. Its easy to be fast in a straight line. Buy a 500 dollar fox body 5.0 mustang shell, and put a 2,000 dollar engine in it and it will stomp a Viper. So my piont is, Its nice to have things like cornering and braking too, especially if your paying 80K for a Dodge. So your Corvette is your best bang for your buck no matter how you look at it.

Yeah, but that wasnt a production car. I think the first production car with SS designation was an Impala (not counting the various vehicles of the Waffen-SS in WW2).

Back in the nineties, the viper became king of the american sportscars, there is the old story about the little boy calling the vette a viper. The viper went racing and won everything, so in '99 chevy began working on the vette as a racer, and have been very successful since, but if it wasn't for the viper, we probably wouldn't be talking about the vette, these days, if the viper had not forced chevy's hand, the vette would not be what it is today. would love to see dodge back a factory effort again! Because of its rarity, I still get a bigger kick out of seeing a viper than a vette any day. I see little old ladies driving vettes, never seen one driving a viper :)

But do you see an Old Lady driving a Z06?

?????What????? Who has been king for the past 12 years? The Viper. It took Chevrolet that long to finally get back in the game. Thats pretty sad if you ask me. At the moment, the vette probably is the best bang for the buck. But when you roll up, which gets the chicks attention, the Viper, or the Vette? Look at the numbers! last week i saw a factory C6 with 400hp out run your infamous 500hp beast, now if that can beat the viper what makes u think that 600hp is gonna stop the c6 Zo6? LOOK AT THE NUMBERS its not small, they are quite a differance

The NEW 2007 Camaro will not be FWD. It is Rear Wheel Drive.

Base model gets a 240HP V6.

Z28 gets a 5.3l LS3 V8 with 303HP (same motor in the Impala SS and GXP)

and the SS gets the 6.0l LS2 V8 with 400HP
