The atomosphere was great with another fun night of racing here in the dungeon with 25 drivers dueling it out for the A Main victories. With the surprise visits by Matt Olmsted and Pete D'agnolo, combined with our regular Friday night EDM drivers, made the BB EDM class one of the toughest fields on a Friday night. The racing was close, fast and exciting... any mistake at all would cost a driver valuable time and positions on the track.
The most exciting race of the night was probably in the 1/18th Latemodel class. Jan Poyneer and Geroge Silliman put on a show battling for the lead for over 3 minutes!! Jan stuck to that low groove and made it tough for Geo to get around. With some bumping and banging they raced tight... with about 30 seconds to go they came together and Geo fell back about a second behind Jan. Despite the heckling from the crowd, Geo made up to ground and and raced to the finish with Jan outlasting Geo for the victory... who says the old man can't getter done!!!??? Hey Jan... way to make your 1/18th scale the size of a monster truck lol!!
Dave Gruel once again came away with the victory in the Sprint class. Dave and Ron Ingison battled it out for most of the race with Dave falling back several times while in second only to run Ron down. Ron put up a battle to try and keep Dave behind him but drove in a little to hard and Dave powered underneath in turn 3 and never looked back. Frank Doll debuted his brand new Klein Sprint car. What a piece of workmanship... the car is abolutely awesome and I look forward to Frank gettinig it dialed in. Looks like a ton of potential!!
Sean "Meatball" Leonard picked up another win in the Small Block EDM class. With just two other drivers competing, Meatball kept his cool and drove a steady race to capture the victory... looks like he is the one to beat in the Small Block class. I think we need some more Small Block guys on Friday night to knock him down a few notches lol!!!
In the Big Block A Main we very nearly had 5 out of the 6 drivers break the 90 lap mark. The competition was close in the begging but eventually Pete powered his way well out in front and finished with 93 laps and the victory. It was Pete's first trip to the dungeon for our regular show and wow... he put on a show turning the fastest laps of the night with sub 3.6 seconds laps. The best battle by far of the night was between Geo and Solly for third place. Solly was all over Geo for just about the entire race. Both running 3.7 second lap times you could not have fit a piece of paper between them. Geo made his car very very wide and Solly could not get by and you almost knew something was going to happen. With about 20 seconds to go they came together and spun allowing Dave Gruel, who ran a very consistant race, to sneak past and finish 3rd. Jeff Hotaling was also very fast all race and at one point was running Pete down while still on the lead lap. Jeff got caught up in the Geo and Solly wreck and ended up losing a couple of laps. Looked like Matt Olmsted was having a bit of handling trouble but certainly had his share of fast laps turning in some consistant sub 3.7 seconds lap times in the main only to fall out with some mechanical trouble.
All in all it was a great night of racing and from watching the guys in the pit area... it looked like they had a lot of fun as well. It is great to see the guys running as fast and as close as they do AND have a lot of fun doing it. I really want to thank the guys for making the trips from Watertown, Rochester, Syracuse and Auburn. It's a long drive for you guys and I just want you to know that we certianly appreciate you guys making the trip and creating a great atmosphere and for some serious competition here at Redneck RC. Look forward to having you next Friday night, yes we are racing Friday night the 23rd.
