View Full Version : “Heads” up

This is one of my all-time favorite slots.

From Atlas--one of the “smaller” slot manufacturer’s, it is a beautiful copy, and my reference’s show it close to the 1/1 car. If Aurora had made it, it would’ve sat too high. If Tyco had done it, it would’ve been too wide.

Atlas never got the credit or the exposure they deserved for such wonderful slot pieces. A shame, because it’s just brilliant.

This was a new/old “kit” I’ve had, but the plastic seam was loose at the bottom of the package, and the head must have rolled out. This was the way I got it.

It’s all original--I just foiled the headlights and the drivers suit, plus painted and picked out the details on the drivers’ mit. The goggles’ detail and the visor button’s were a challenge in themselves.

The head (a perfect duplicate of the original) came from Volvo (Neal, again!)

I’ve posted pics’ of this before, but for those who missed it-- it has a Tyco 440 in the belly, and DC rubber tires.

I only cruise this baby, for fear of breaking off the side pipes, and possibly loosing the drivers glass fairing.

I guess if I did, I might get them from Neal, too!

Thank you Neal, for coming through, once again!

Cheers..

Another Beauty, BOSS!
I have this kit too (it is resin and as of yet, unbuilt) and it also came from Neal! His body kit is crisp and clean. Seeing your beautiful car makes me want to drop all of my other projects and jump into it! I have been busy playing with one of his other bodies though, so i don't feel too guilty over it. :)

Boss, you actually have a 440 under that body? It must be a mighty tight squeeze!
same good ol shelby racing formula. "as much motor as you can cram into the lightest body possible!"...or something like that.... jebus that slot is beautiful!
Boss, Did you foil the head-fairings too? They look very glinty. I think I may do mine that way when I get to it!
Keep on crankin' the customs!

So nice in fact that it almost looks like a larger scale. Great job on details.

Bossman- I have never seen this car. I had to look twice at the track to make sure it was HO. Lots of detail on it. Nice job on the foil. I willl will have to redo the front bumper that Neal (Volvo 1:1) did for me on an Atlas Pontiac with foil. I painted it but it just doesn't do it justice.

Here’s a pic of the original kit. You can just make out the "HO racing car kit" wording next to the Atlas logo...

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/511/Pict0399.JPG

It came with options like a plastic rolling static chassis, and a complete set of extra body pieces in regular white plastic, besides the chrome bits, along with a full set of stick-on decals.

You also had the option to build it one of two ways. I combined parts from both options to create mine.
One of the neat parts included was the (non-functional) “Air-brake”, which on the 1/1 car was a type of rear wing/panel which lifted near the end of a long straight to “drag” the car down to a slower pace for the curves.:)

Those kits are neat...
It is a shame we can't interest RC2 into doing something like that....
Crossover kits with more than 1 market.
It's a model! It's a slotcar! It's TWO kits in one!!!

Sure is a great looker Boss!

Scott, sure would be nice to get the R2 cars in a kit form, ready to be painted, built and customized. Just think, no more having to strip that paint. Would work for me. :) rr
