Just a reminder that we're running the Road Course at Thunder Road on Saturday. We have a great Road Course; and hope you will join us for a great day of racing.

We'll be closing down for the Christmas Holidays; and our next Oval Race will be New Year's Day. This will be the last day of racing before the big JACO/SMC Snowflake Oval Classic on January 7th. If you want to do well at the Snowflake, I'd suggest you get in some practice; because the locals are looking pretty stout! Thanks; Ernie P.

If you want mod or 19t, better go to Sandhills. They don't run mod here and haven't been running 19t this season. Also, there will probably be about 10 cars at this race total.

No one can predict the turn out of a race but I would think with JACO and SMC sponsoring this one that Jack and Danny would want their team drivers there.

Big news from the 1/1/06 race at Thunder Road! Steve Downs did *NOT* set a new record! He did, however, jump into the lead on the first corner of each race, was never seriously challenged, and stroked to easy victories in all three heats and the A Main.

What was perhaps more interesting was going on behind him. Clayton Anderson, Big Clay, arrived late (Doesn't that make him right on time?); missed the first heat; dropped out of the second heat very early with an evil-handling car; but bounced back in the third heat, running strongly. Then, in the A Main, Big Clay ran a very strong second.

Lin Vaughan wound up third in the A Main, but had a night long fight with an ever-improving Kevin Colburn; who gave Lin fits all night long. Kevin often headed Lin in the heat races, and gave him a hard fight in the Main, running in front of Lin during much of the race. Kevin Morris, Greg and Jimmy Zirk had various handling problems, and trailed at the wire.

In Spec, it was a back and forth battle all night long. John Foster was nowhere in the first heat; better in the second and had it worked out in the third. He tweaked on his car all night long, improving each run; and ran a strong race in the Spec A Main; finishing in front of a strong running Kevin Colburn. Charlie won the first heat; but couldn't match the improvements made by John and Kevin through the evening; and wound up third. Kevin Morris trailed in fourth.

Apologies from the track owner for the dishevelment caused by the heating system installation. The only thing remaining is for the electrician to wire in the thermostats; and we'll be all warm and toasty. The installers have promised to have the scaffolding torn down and removed before Friday; and we should be ready to go.

We're looking for a barn burner of a race next weekend; and hope to see you all there. The JACO/SMC Snowflake Oval Classic is going to be FAST. Maybe some one can actually get a look at the front end of Steve Down's car!? Thanks; Ernie P.

The cars have been ready since before the last road race @ TR. Need to freshen up some motors and I will be ready to roll.

I was going to do that tonight but decided to watch Penn State win the Orange Bowl (I hope) instead while surfing the net.

I am strong enough on the straights (thanks to the EA power) just need a tick more in turns and some flawless driving to catch the little devil... lol....

As they say practice makes perfect and since I have not raced since before the holidays I will see you Friday late PM.

Hope to see you all at TR soon!

The JACO/SMC Snowflake Oval Classsic will be run Saturday, January 7th. Thunder Road will be open at 10:00 on Friday, for those needing setups, or simply trying to go faster. Looking at the competition lined up, going faster may be a really good idea.

If a big, fast, smooth and flat carpet oval track, fast company and $1,000.00 in merchandise prizes trips your trigger, head for Thunder Road RC Speedway in Gordonsville, Virginia. Directions and details can be found on our website at thunderroadrc.com.

The new radiant heating system is cranked up and toasty warm. And the racing is going to be **HOT**.

Well, things started out looking pretty normal in the JACO/SMC Snowflake Oval Classic at Thunder Road RC Speedway. Steve Downs swept every heat in Stock; while Jesse Bean followed suit in Spec Class.

Clayton Anderson and Steve Nelson chased hard in Stock; but couldn't seem to muster the last tenth of a second needed to stay with Steve, who hadn't been beat on the new, large flat oval track in recent weeks. No new lap records were set; but Steve was knocking on the door all night.

When the A Main was run, things changed quickly. An errant car in the third turn, a marshall on the track, and suddenly Steve Downs was parked with a shattered left front suspension; while Clayton Anderson was left limping with a bent axle. Even so, Big Clay chased hard for the rest of the race; but couldn't make up for being left two laps down.

Harold Ruckle slipped into the lead in the melee; and ran like a thief all the way to the checker. Steve Nelson ran hard, but couldn't catch Harold; although he looked to be closing at the flag. Jesse Bean followed in third, while Big Clay and Quinn Frazier trailed to the flag. Mr. Downs watched from the sidelines, as the biggest payout of the season slipped away.

In the Stock B Main, Steve Vaughan ran and hid from Kevin Colburn and John Pritchett; while Buddy Hartman trailed the leading trio.

Spec Class belonged to Jesse Bean all night long. Charlie Johnson and your's truly occasionally managed to bump their way into better position; but Jesse's Nastruck was simply in a different zip code.

With outside temperatures in the 20's, the new radiant heating system worked to perfection; although the hot action on the track kept every one's personal temperatures elevated much of the evening. Granny's food was superb, as normal; and track awards from Jaco, SMC and McCallister completed the good news.

The JACO/SMC Snowflake Road Course Classic will be run on January 20, 21 and 22. $1,000.00 in merchandise awards, a fast road course and some stiff competition await. Get your road car tuned and head for Thunder Road RC Speedway in Gordonsville, VA! Thanks; Ernie P.
