Dawn Sanchez 12-16-2005, 04:27 PM new battery approvals can be found on the website.... each has an approval date of 10/1/2005 http://roarracing.org/approvals/sbattery.php (http://roarracing.org/approvals/sbattery.php) Sanyo RC-3600HV Light Red Shrink 10/01/2005 GP GP370SCHR Rainbow Shrink 10/01/2005 GP GP370SCHC Green w/Orange Band Shrink 10/01/2005 IB EP3800ESP Epic Black w/Red & White Bands Shrink 10/01/2005 IB X3800IB Yokomo Lt Blue w/Yellow X Shrink 10/01/2005 IB SC-3600 Shaded Blue Intellect 3600 Shrink 10/01/2005 IB SC-3800 Shaded Blue Intellect 3800 Shrink 10/01/2005 IB SC-3700UP White, Blue& Silver VTEC Shrink 10/01/2005 IB SC-3800UP White, Blue& Silver VTEC Shrink 10/01/2005 IP IP3800SC Red w/ White& Silver Shrink 10/01/2005 MIKE VALENTINE 12-17-2005, 03:34 PM Dawn Sanchez Why were they all back dated to 10-01-2005. The cells weren't approved that date. If they were approved that day, then why wasn't the people submitting the cells notified then. My point it why not accurately post the aproved date. davepull 12-17-2005, 06:19 PM never mind Al Spina Fan 12-17-2005, 06:43 PM Mike, Just a guess but I think the dating may relate to a 90 day period from "approval" to use. By dating the approval 10/1, they can be part of the 2006 approved products to be used beginning 1/1/06. Dawn Sanchez 12-17-2005, 11:34 PM Mike asks a good question. Basically, Mike, there are several manufacturers (not distributors) who submitted cells that do not fit the ROAR spec sizes (which are international standards for sub-c cells) and in the meantime, IFMAR changed their ruling regarding sub-c international standards. ROAR has a policy to follow IFMAR rules and this left the organization in a sticky situation. Several things could have happened... ROAR could deny approval to cells that would be legal at any IFMAR event and caused the membership to purchase cells they thought were legal and then end up being DQ'd from an event or find a way to compromise the situation for the best interest of the ROAR membership. The ROAR rule for battery approvals is below: 8.3.6 Battery approvals will only be processed once per year. All cells must be submitted to the ROAR Technical Director by September 1st to be considered for approval the following year’s sanctioned events. The final decisions on approvals will be made on or before October 1st, and communicated to the manufacturer/distributor or assembler. For several months, ROAR has been attempting to locate the reasoning behind the IFMAR change and put on hold the approval process to inquire to the membership in the latest advisory vote what the racers want, knowing several cells were not within specifications. After the advisory vote was established,. ROAR was forced to go back to the drawing board and find a compromise to allow cells that would not normally be approved due to a nominal overage in length. Below is the rewording of the battery rule as it will apply for 2006 approved cells: Battery Specification Ruling Cells submitted for approval shall measure 43.0mm in an overall nominal length which includes the center positive button. Individual cells shall be constructed such that the overall length resulting from the combination of charging and/or conditioning never exceeds 44.0mm. This may be verified at competition technical inspections/checks. As you see, work has been done to provide the ROAR membership the best possible avenue for batteries in competition. Although, I hope you notice that tech verification can be done at events and soon you will hear about weight of cells to avoid similiar problems for 2007. I hope I answered your question and I hope folks out there realize I'm not about to continue any battles regarding this decision. I, personally, feel this decision is in the best interest of the ROAR membership and hope we can find some better solutions for 2007 approvals sooner than a few weeks prior to the deadline dates. :) FroBoy 12-18-2005, 04:05 AM I can now have a big sigh of relief. Life as region director can easier after all. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
