jheilman 12-13-2005, 07:13 PM "Kong with cheese" good one.
I'd like three King Kongs with extra pickle, no mayo or onion and one Mega Kong with bacon and a banana.
Zorro 12-13-2005, 07:18 PM I'm disappointed The Sci-Fi Channel didn't exploit this opportunity to do a re-make of "Konga".
phrankenstign 12-13-2005, 10:46 PM They had to put Bela Lugosi meets the Son of a Brooklyn Gorilla on the schedule somewhere. The remake of Konga had to go.
The Batman 12-14-2005, 12:42 AM "Kong with cheese" good one.

John P 12-14-2005, 08:48 AM The wife and I watched the original on the new DVD this weekend. Just wonderful.
Though I guess I've been spoiled by the subsequent 70 years of better stop-motion (Hi Mr. Harryhausen, hi Mr. Tippet!) and the recent advances in CG characters - that ol' stop-motions sure looks choppy and primitive by today's standards!

To me, there's a vast difference in the fluidity of the animation between King Kong and Mighty Joe Young. Don't know how much Harryhausen had to do with that. Also, I checked out some of the '76 Kong on AMC last night. Had not seen it in many years and the effects on that one have not aged well either. There are at least a couple of composite shots where Kong looks like he was outlined with a heavy black magic marker. Some of the miniature sets are less than convincing as well with that "in-the-studio" artificial lighting that is too flat and dark. For a minute, I thought I was back in TOHO-land.
John P 12-14-2005, 02:04 PM And let's not forget Carlo Rambaldi's hilarious life-sized Kong puppet, that was so convincing it was only on screen for 1.5 seconds!
WTH is "Lord of the Rungs" supposed to mean? :freak:
john guard 12-14-2005, 02:15 PM it means his trilogy LOTR sucked!!!! Peter Jackson owes me a refund!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw KK '76 and it's awesome!! i cried at the end!!
if King Kong had lived, they coulda used him a a security guard and 9-11 would never have happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It means someone chose to chime in about how the new movie sucks even though he never saw the new movie. Apparently George Lucas is the only person who could do a better version of King Kong than the original ...
scotpens 12-14-2005, 05:42 PM "Kong with cheese" good one.
I'd like three King Kongs with extra pickle, no mayo or onion and one Mega Kong with bacon and a banana. And a double side order of Jessica Lange . . . Sorry, can't resist the obvious.
Actually, with all the jokes about her debut in that wretched 1976 version, she really wasn't all THAT bad. It's pretty much a one-note performance, but, IMO, it does qualify as acting. Maybe she was so convincing playing a bimbo that people thought she really was a bimbo.
Oh, and it also had a nice musical score by John Barry.

I totally agree.
Lange took a beating from the critics for playing a dumb blond, but I've always thought she was simply playing the role of "Dwan" as written, i.e. a sweet, naive, air-headed, wannabe-starlet bimbo with great legs.
Fact is, when it comes to chemistry, Jessica Lange and Jeff Bridges blow Naomi Watts and Adrien Brody off the screen. Casting Lange & Bridges in the leads is just about the only thing the `76 version got right.
john guard 12-14-2005, 06:19 PM George Lucas Is Awesome, Man!! He Could Make Any Film Better, Man! You Guys Dont Understand, Man!!!!!!!!!

How does changing "Rings" to "Rungs" signify that? What is "Lord of the Rungs" supposed the mean? A guy in charge of ladders or something? Most people try to make insults mean something. Changing a word to a nonsense word doesn't mean much of anything. How does "Lord of the Rungs" do anything to insult the film or the director? Mostly, it just makes you sound like a 9-year-old.
