Well, got me a Rustler and am in the process of a few minor upgrades, I used to race a while back, and now my kid is interested, which I got the Rustler, anyhow...the transmission seemed to make a bit of noise ( I used to have a T2) so I have narrowed it down to the slipper, any suggestions on how to quiet it down and am I in the right zip code on this?

Thanks...........Chris

Nope. Idler gear in transmission. Tip: Keep a few in stock.

very good possibility that the idler is bad. The traxxas tranny takes some finess to keep it together to say the least. Really close attention to the spur/pinion mesh, run a little bit loose slipper, and don't land on the throttle and that will help a good bit.

Also, try running the carbon fiber HPI spur gears with Diff balls installed instead of slipper pegs. (noticeable difference in sound just so you know)

For some really good tips on what to install for durability upgrades check out HERE (http://www.misbehavin-rc.com/pit-lane/er-pit-lane.asp)

I hate to admit this but I went down your road a few years back with my boy and I. After spending quite a few good earned dollars making things bulletproof as can be I finally realized that to get past beginners or the Dmain I would need a faster more "race bred" truck.

Just something for you to think about. Depending on your son's age the rustler will treat you great as the only thing that will break is spur gears and tranny components.

Good luck!

yes it is the Idle gear when I ran one the same gear went out of it and it made a very bad grinding sound (sounded like really bad gear mesh) but i would just keep a couple on hand at all times.
