I read somewhere on here where someone used liquid steel to put their cars back together after drill the rivets out and I was wondering does this work on plastic to or is there something else I need to use? and another ? is there any way of getting the redlines off the Johnnylightning Tires without messing them up? And is it pure Pine soul you soak your cars in or is there something you add to it.? I really need some info cause I am about to destroy some cars to customize but I need a little help. Thanks BigJohn's chevy

Hey John, not too sure about the answer to first question, since I havent done anything with a plastic base. Ill test out some nail polish remover on a redline and see if that works, I think it should. I've never dilluted the pinesol I soak my cars in. I pour it straight in, I've seen results in a short as 3 hours, while others have taken as long as three days to strip paint. Good luck, and Ill post back here in a minute with the redline results

The nail polish remover works pretty well. When you look closely you can see a very very light red tint in some places. Im trying to soak it and see if I can get any more to come off.

I want to see about making them look as good as a regular black tire.

Hey John, it worked! First, I rubbed the majority of the RL off with a q-tip soaked in nail polish remover. Then I just soaked it in a small cap of nail polish remover, and after about an hour, I pulled it out, and while wiping it off, I could see the rest of the red come off on the paper towel. Good luck with your projects and don't forget to post some pics when you're done!

~EDIT~
John, I was just trying to fit the tire back on, the remover did something to the tire. Its much softer than it should be, and doesnt fit as snug on the wheels as it should. I'm gonna see if I can get one to rub off on its on with q-tips. Ill post the new results

Ok, it will work with just a q-tip and some nail polish remover. Just work on a small section of the tire at a time and move around the tire, this one came out nice and it isnt deformed

Can I use a 5lb metal coffee can to soak my cars in Pinesoul.? I need to know before I throw them in.

You can use any container you want, as long as the casting will fit inside.
Just remember that you will have to fish the casting out of the solution.
It is good to get in the habit of wearing rubber gloves when you do these things.
Rubber gloves on any kind of paint remover or stripper.
Nail polisher remover is not normally a problem.
Use caution and common sense when doing these things.
And don't forget to use some kind of safety glasses when working with chemicals.

Cheers. Cobra

john go to walmart and buy aircraft remover. around 3 bucks a can.. its in the paint section.
in a warm area it takes about 5 min to remove the paint. usaly i do it where the sun can hit it because the warmer the quicker it removes the paint. rince in warm water and dish soap.
personaly i like loctite industrial paint remover 10 bucks a can but removes paint in 2 mins

Man, forget the Pinesoul! Take the trip and buy the aircraft remover stuff. I use it, it takes the paint off cleanly in a few minutes then you can get to work on your custom.

I use 5 minute epoxy to put the cars back together. It does not matter if the base is plastic or metal, it works the same. Use the spray on aircraft stripper like gunn suggested. Works the best.

Hey John, sorry to hear that things arent working out so well for you with the pinesol. Are you soaking JL's or HW's? I've only soaked JL's and I usually start to see paint bubbles and wrinkles after about 3-4 hours. I threw a HW's in the tub the other day and it hasnt hardly taken anything off, its been in for 5 days now, the JL's around it are bare, but the HW's almost looks good as new. I dont know what kind of paint they use, but it sure sticks well.

I've had a HW Surfin' S'cool bus body soaking in a pine sol tank for over three weeks now! (I even forgot it was in there for awhile!) The paint just won't come off. Yet,I've dropped in a HW Nash Metrorail body in the same solution and it was COMPLETELY stripped of paint in less than two hours! (The tank is actually a plastic coffee can) Same for some JLs I stripped recently. An aqua Classic Gold VW bus was stripped in under an hour, but an X-men VW Beetle took almost two weeks!
