I'm surprised with the new movie coming out that some new kits or figures haven't surfaced? In particular from the Original? The ones I saw from the new movie are very detailed but expensive,or others releases (I think Playmates) are somewhat cheesy. This movie new or original always to me had the potential of being outstanding with figures,so many incidents in the movie, the T rex and Pteranodon scenes, the Ann tied to the Pillar scenes with Kong, and the Great Wall and ESB scenes,Not that I haven't seen some of those in the passed. . The Lord of the rings ones were awesome, but I think were put out by another company. And just even Kong merchandise in general, nothing at out Walmart.Should some be coming along?

licensing and marketing are very complex. while the dvd release of an original can be seen as adding to the hoopla surrounding the release of a remake, merchandise based on the original is seen more as "in competion" with the remake's merchandise (and as taking attention away from the remake.). so even if a toy manufacturer wanted to do original kong stuff, the studio probably wouldnt license it. (i ran into almost exactly this situation years ago when the company i co-owned did a little licensing, and that was at a time when licensing wasnt nearly as "high stakes" as it is now. i was flatly told by an exectuive in the studios merchandising department "we arent interested in promoting that property at the present time.")
