I have access to a fair amount of old cell phones at work and was wondering what I could use the batterys for ? At around 3.6V, could they be used for break in boxes or tire sanders or maybe just to test the motor at a slot car show? I also plan to rip out the motors and use them as an "alternative" power plants

Well, two batteries would give you 7.2 volts which would be ok (maybe) as a low speed break in box...
3 would be better... But they do not have conventional connections to wire them up.
I guess you could gut the phones for that too...

I've found regular 9V batteries (what we used to call transistor radio batteries) are about the best thing for testing HO slot cars. I always have a few in my case and one in my pocket at swap meets and shows.
