View Full Version : gas in my oil case??? Eclipse233 12-09-2005, 01:30 PM Went to start my 9hp briggs generator and found the crank case full of gas??? How did this happen ?? need your help mushmorten 12-09-2005, 01:54 PM I had the same problem with my Bolens rider mower with a B & S, 8 Hp on it. I was thinking that the rings were bad but not sure. I'll keep checking in to see if anyone responds with an answer. Jeff in Vermont bugman 12-09-2005, 03:07 PM no its not rings..... go ahead and drain the oil before you even think of starting it. i would check the float in the carb, they can get a pinhole around where they are sealed, fill with gas and sink, leaving the inlet needle open and it will flood out and travel through the breather. or the float got stuck, or inlet needle. or the inlet needle is damaged and or needle seat is. and don't forget to fill it with fresh oil when your done repairing it, and just keep a watch on how it smells just to make sure. if its gonna be run in the cold, use a multi-weight, if in warm weather just use a straight hd-30 Eclipse233 12-10-2005, 09:42 AM Thank you for the info. Turned out I had a stick carb float and the gas had a passage to the crank case oil. Freed the float cleaned the needle valve drained the case and refilled -- started right up -- changed the oil once more just to be safe. Then I installed a gas shut off valve before the carb to prevent this again. Lets face it a generator sits around most of the time.
