I have a Homelite generator, model 180A75-1, with a Briggs & Stratton engine, series 326400. The engine has an external oil reservoir to keep the crankcase full during extended run times. However, too much oil is being pulled, or pushed, into the crankcase, overfilling it. I have searched the internet extensively concerning this situation and haven't found a thing. Can anyone tell me how this system works and why it may be malfunctioning?

I looked in my Briggs repair manual and no mention is made of an external oil supply for that engine. My guess is that it is a Homelite add-on. Perhaps if you contact them they will shed some light on your situation,

Thanks, I have found information to confirm your suspicions. I have found a parts list for that generator but no technical help as to how the system works. There is a device in the line from the external reservoir to the crankcase that is referred to as a "Head". It has some kind of diaphragm in it, one side is vented to the atmosphere and the other side is on the reservoir/crankcase side. The tube into the crankcase is completely open but I did find a crack in the housing of the device called the "Head". That may be the problem and I have sought to order the part.
