the sound in my friends's computer is not working and we can't figure out why. her cousins gave her the computer about 5 months ago and when she first got it the sound was working perfectly but right away the next day it wouldn't work any more. i know nothing is wrong with the speakers and i know the volume is NOTon mute and i don't think anything is wrong with the sound card but i can't figure out why the sound only worked for one day.

does anybody have any suggestion on how to fix this. please help

I had that happen once. The sound card drivers (software that lets the computer know the card is there) needed to be updated. Try to find new drivers, perhaps. Usually the computer vendor website will have things like that. www.dell.com, www.hp.com etc.

Drivergiude.com your best bet on drivers and utilities. you will need to delete the old driver from device manager. and let windows try to instal the driver its self. if that does not work you will need to know what vendor is to get the right driver and go directly to that vendors website. hp and dell use 3 party sound cards
