View Full Version : Batman 1st Season coming to DVD! fernieo 12-05-2005, 12:08 PM See here: http://www.monstersinmotion.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=8018 JamesDFarrow 12-05-2005, 12:45 PM I'm not convinced that they have it right about being the Adam West and Burt Ward TV series. Amazon has it (Feb.2006 release) as an animated series and DeepDiscountDVD doesn't really have any info on it. I would wait and make sure before pre-ordering. James :) rw2516 12-05-2005, 12:45 PM It's the 2004 animated series THE BATMAN Zorro 12-05-2005, 01:54 PM No - the DVD being advertised on MIM says its The 40th Anniversary Edition of The Classic Live-Action TV Series. It's also a bootleg. Dave Hussey 12-05-2005, 02:39 PM There is a whole new generation out there just waiting to gobble up the Adam West and Burt Ward Batman series and related merchandising. I know this for a fact. My three year old loves the Adam West Batman movie and will sit enthralled when I pop it in the player. My buddy's twelve year old also loves that movie. Somewhere I was able to download an MP3 file of the opening theme song with sound effects of the Batmobile spinning up and screeching out of the Batcave while Robin says in his exagerated dramatic manner "engines to power, turbines to speed!". My little fellow loves me to play it in the car CD player when I pick him up from day care. If this is a new DVD set of the old 60's series, my kid would love it. If there was related merchandising in the stores, He would do his kid thing and I'd end up buying it for me. I mean him! I mean one for both of us! If it's a bootleg, why haven't they gotten a cease and desest? Old_McDonald 12-05-2005, 02:45 PM If it's a bootleg, why haven't they gotten a cease and desest? Sadily, this may be the truth. Read all about what's really happening at this link: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=4637 Zorro 12-05-2005, 03:33 PM If it's a bootleg, why haven't they gotten a cease and desest? I guess the proper parties haven't found out yet? If this were a "legitimate" issue, MIM wouldn't be the first place you would be finding out about it.* *Edit - just read the link posted above. Looks more like a "mistake" than a bootleg. Old_McDonald 12-05-2005, 03:49 PM One thing that is encouraging is that they are at least at the negotiating table. Perhaps if they do get the TV series to DVD, we'll see more things like the Batmobile models and diecast. I would luv to be able to buy a few of the Batmobile from the TV series in 1:18 scale diecast. Dave Hussey 12-05-2005, 04:02 PM Indeed; patience grasshopper! And hopefully we'll one day see the things that Old_Macdonald mentions as well. Huzz Brent Gair 12-05-2005, 04:27 PM One thing that is encouraging is that they are at least at the negotiating table. Uh...yeah. Israel is also negotiating with the Palestinians for peace and the Indians are negotiating with the Pakistanis about Kashmir. I'm sure ALL of those issues will be solved in about the same time frame. Zorro 12-05-2005, 04:28 PM One thing that is encouraging is that they are at least at the negotiating table. Yes - there is a virtual gold mine in licensing opportunities but apparently the rights are more complicated than a Chinese Puzzle. I mean, the '66 feature and the made-for-tv Bio are both available on DVD - but no merchandising whatsoever. PL was somehow able to get around those issues with The Batcycle and Batboat but of course they didn't do the Batmobile. I'd just like to see this happen so that West, Ward, and the few other principals who are still alive could get a little piece of pie themselves. Could you imagine a whole series of McFarlane action figures with spot-on likenesses based on the series? - not to mention nice, detailed diecast vehicles. rw2516 12-05-2005, 06:35 PM Uh...yeah. Israel is also negotiating with the Palestinians for peace and the Indians are negotiating with the Pakistanis about Kashmir. I'm sure ALL of those issues will be solved in about the same time frame. Actually there will probably be a 1000 years of peace between the Palestinians and Israel before Batman gets a dvd release. Some things just aren't possible. This issue goes beyond two studios failing to come to terms over a property. Fox owns the prints but does not own the show outright. It was produced in association with Greenway Productions. There are the rights to the batmobile, the costumes are copyrighted by the designer, the theme song is copyrighted and then there are music rights issues with songs in some of the episodes. Also the Green Hornet appears in three episodes, I believe the Green Hornet is a Universal property. This brings the RIAA into the mess which has strict guidelines on the use of music recordings in dvd releases. Even if everyone were agree on a settlement there are industry guidelines that prevent companies from always doing what they want with their properties. Sometimes you can't get the rights to a song no matter how much money you are willing to pay for it. There's a big long thread at dvdtalk about how the music has been replaced in the Quantum Leap dvd releases. Most of the posts rake Universal over the coals for being to cheap to pay for the music but in some cases you can't get the rights no matter what. One episode has an Elvis song. Universal was going to dub a cover of the song but were'nt allowed to use an Elvis song in any way. By the way, the R2 dvds of Quantum Leap have all the original music intact because RIAA regulations don't apply overseas. "I Love the Nightlife" is missing from both vhs and dvd releases of Love at First Bite because the song is not available for use, period. Ever notice that the theme song is missing from public domain releases of old tv shows? I was suprsed to fing out that there are MPAA rules regarding what a studio can do with it's own films in video and dvd releases. Don't know what time period the rule covers but scenes that were not shown as part of the film theatrically cannot be inserted into the movie on dvd. They have to be seperate as a special feature. This rules prevents WB from giving you the option of watching King Kong with the spider pit scene as part of the film or deleted songs from The Wizard of Oz inserted into the movie. MGM/UA was allowed to release The Good, The Bad and the Ugly with the extra scenes inserted because it had been shown theatrically somewhere in the world that way. Back to the Green Hornet. Also not likely to get a dvd release. Besides Fox and Greenway Productions you have Universal thrown into the mix. Also several episodes have people watching Batman on tv, another mess. There was a time when people didn't think about this stuff, much like you or I didn't think twice about riding our bike with a copy of X-Men #1 rolled up in our back pocket or playing with an original 1965 G.I. Joe outside in the dirt. Zorro 12-05-2005, 11:00 PM The website has been changed to correct the mistake. The difference is they they are negotiating about differences based on religion. We Americans negotiate based on money. Every man has his price. rw2516 12-06-2005, 10:05 AM The difference is they they are negotiating about differences based on religion.
