Okay, this has got to be the most screwed-up thing ever.

I just described it all in chat so I'll post a log here. It's pretty self-explanitory.

[17:51] atsfrr3000: Here, I'll just tell the whole story :P
[17:51] atsfrr3000: First thing that happened is that my firewall and antivirus got corrupted.
[17:52] GP_38-2: ouch
[17:52] atsfrr3000: When I tried downloading new installers for them I found out that anything I downloaded got corrupted on the spot.
[17:52] atsfrr3000: Since it still happened in Safe Mode I figured it was a prob with the core Windows files.
[17:52] atsfrr3000: So I backed my work up and wiped the disk.
[17:52] GP_38-2: good
[17:52] atsfrr3000: Then I tried re-installing Windows.
[17:53] atsfrr3000: The Install program kept telling me that the CD was missing files, though.
[17:53] atsfrr3000: Even though I confirmed on another computer that they were all there.
[17:53] atsfrr3000: I tried a few tricks. I saved the files it was missing to a seperate CD and gave it that to work off of.
[17:53] atsfrr3000: But that wouldnt work either, the setup couldnt copy them for some reason.
[17:53] atsfrr3000: So I figured that maybe it was a hard drive issue.
[17:54] atsfrr3000: SO I replaced it with a new HD
[17:54] atsfrr3000: No luck
[17:54] atsfrr3000: Well, I let it sit for a while
[17:54] atsfrr3000: Then, yesterday
[17:54] atsfrr3000: My Grandpa took me to a computer store
[17:54] atsfrr3000: And got what he called "A repair kit"
[17:54] atsfrr3000: Basically every necessary part
[17:54] GP_38-2: lol
[17:54] atsfrr3000: A new motherboard
[17:54] atsfrr3000: CPU
[17:54] atsfrr3000: Hard Drive
[17:54] atsfrr3000: 512mb stick of RAM
[17:55] atsfrr3000: And a new Windows XP install disk
[17:55] GP_38-2: whatta you gonna run now?
[17:55] atsfrr3000: SO I set it all up
[17:55] atsfrr3000: Tried installing Windows
[17:55] atsfrr3000: And guess what?
[17:55] GP_38-2: nothing!
[17:55] atsfrr3000: It still didn't work.
[17:55] atsfrr3000: I just tried using a seperate CD-ROM, in case it was an issue with that
[17:55] atsfrr3000: But still, nothing

Any suggestions at all?

Just as a note. The files that Windows XP can't find aren't the same files over and over. They're different files each and every time.

Please help!

We solved the issue. Apparently it was the "cable select" setting on the HD for Master/Slave. We replaced it with a regular cable, and set the HD's configuration manually (i.e. not cable select) and all works fine now.

And with this new 64-bit CPU I'm not going back :)
