View Full Version : Movie title help
PhilipMarlowe 11-30-2005, 08:55 PM I don't have much to go on, but does anybody remember a 70's probably-TV movie where a guy gets mugged in the mens room of a big dept store, and when he comes to the stores closed, he's locked in, and a pack of trained attack guard dogs chase after him for the rest of the movie. I think it starred Mike Connors, but I couldn't spot a likely title on the IMDB. I mostly remember the dogs, and that it was pretty gory for a TV movie.
JamesDFarrow 11-30-2005, 10:10 PM Dobermans in the title? Seems to trigger a partial memory.
Edit - There was a movie called "The Amazing Dobermans" I think.
And it came about because of a previous movie that used the same dogs?
And whoever saw that movie liked the idea of the Dobermans and so he
used them in the Amazing Dobermans. Or maybe it's my imagination mixing up
memories. LOL!
James :)
The Batman 11-30-2005, 11:14 PM I believe that was called "The DARING Dobermans" - But, I've never seen the film so, I don't know whether it's the movie you're looking for or not.

PhilipMarlowe 11-30-2005, 11:49 PM No, this was different. I did see The Amazing Doberman Gang and The Darin' Dobermans at a drive-in double feature around the same time period though.
I'm pretty sure it was a made-for-TV movie of the week sort-of-thing. But the dogs are smart and well trained, and keep getting pieces of the guy till at the end, as he's hanging from a pipe by one arm and the dogs are seriously gnawing his legs he does the first "light-the-matchbook-and-set-off-the-sprinkler-alarm" scene I ever saw in a movie.
It was bloody enough it left a memorable impression.
Zorro 12-01-2005, 12:49 AM I knew this movie sounded familiar. I must have seen it when it first aired.
"Trapped" (1973) (TV) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070828/
big-dog 12-01-2005, 01:21 AM Soudns dead on the money, I thought those Doberman Gang films were Disney, or something like that. I wish you could get soem of those older TV movies on DVD. Really like to see 'Dark Night of the Scarecrow'.

Thats it!
I woulda swore it was Mike "Mannix" Connors!
John P 12-01-2005, 08:36 AM I was gonna say either Brolin or Chad Everett.
PhilipMarlowe 12-01-2005, 09:13 AM I was gonna say either Brolin or Chad Everett.
I had checked Mike Connors, David Jansen, Stuart Whitman, and Chad Everett, or the giants of 70's tv movies. I never would have guessed Brolin, good work Z-man!
MangoMan 12-01-2005, 10:11 AM I remember seeing this when it first aired. It left such an impression that even today, when a store announces it's closing, I tell the wife that we'd better hurry so they don't lock us in with the Dobermans.
Griffworks 12-01-2005, 11:13 AM Yeah, same here w/the impression. I don't generally have a problem when it's a standard store, but when it's a department store it sort of comes up in my memory as they're getting ready to close....
El Gato 12-01-2005, 10:30 PM When a store is getting ready to close I mostly think of that Twilight Zone episode where the mannequins come to life (Mannequin was a bad ripoff of TZ...<<shudder>>).

AFILMDUDE 12-02-2005, 02:13 AM Thanks for jogging a few brain cells - I now remember seeing this film too! Probably a "Movie of the Week."
I can't imagine a bunch of dogs actually running free through a swanky store though. What would stop one from lifting his leg on the merchandise?
scotpens 12-02-2005, 03:07 AM When a store is getting ready to close I mostly think of that Twilight Zone episode where the mannequins come to life (Mannequin was a bad ripoff of TZ...<<shudder>>).Other than the basic theme of an inanimate human effigy coming to life — which has been a staple of mythology and literature from the Golem to Pygmalion to Pinocchio — Mannequin doesn't have much in common with that classic Twilight Zone episode. (I assume you're referring to the 1987 comedy flick with Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrall.) However, that TZ ep with Anne Francis was remade (badly) as an episode of the NEW Twilight Zone back in the ’80s.
BTW, the mention of Mannequin got me thinking of how many ’80s movies had scenes of people cavorting through empty department stores and shopping malls. Must have had something to do with the Zeitgeist, I guess. . .

I've seen very few of the "new" TZ TV episodes but I saw one that was a sequel to my favorite episode of all time - "It's a Good Life" in which they brought Billy Mumy/Anthony back as an adult. It was abyssmal. The "TZ:The Movie" remake of that episode has some clever ideas in it but completely ruins the mood of the original by essentially making it a "comedy" with a happy ending.
A Taylor 12-02-2005, 01:21 PM Mannequin was more of a remake of "A Touch Of Venus", really.

say Scot - You also reminded me of this really "Corman-isque" grade Z Slasher Epic entitled "Chopping Mall" This one had a new Robotic (They look like Dr. Who's Deleks) security Force and it's after Hours these Nice lookin' Teenagers (Think Red Shirts! lol) are partying in the back of one their Father's Furniture Store when the "Security - Bots Armed with all kinds of nifty Killing Tools Start getting Reaallllyyyy into their job and start knockin' off the Partying Teens (they suffered some sort of programing glitch lol Anyhoo, I thought it was fun at the time (but then again I also thought Drinkin' till I Puked on myself was fun at that time too! lol Hmmm Maybe I'd better watch it again and make sure lol
Now say, Philip, Let me ask you about one of those Movies Of The Week, I remember being not more than 7 or 8 (so this would have been 1975/76) Anyhoo This film was much like a Kefier Sutherland Film from a few Years ago, It was (to the best of my memory ) Another James Brolin Type or it could have been him, anyhoo his wife gets taken by someone BUT when this husband calls the Cops (They were at some little Biker Bar iirc) Anyhoo He calls the Cops who try to tell him he NEVER a Wife!! It was also similar to that Kurt Rusell Film from the Mid 90's where the Evil trucker takes his Wife and Kurt has to Confront this Truker and recover his Wife. saddly after all these years I've NEVER seen this older film since I sure would like to know how it ended.

ATIf you mean the 1948 picture with Ava Gardner,* it was called ONE Touch of Venus and it was a reworking of the classic Pygmalion myth. You know, like G.B. Shaw's play Pygmalion -- or My Fair Lady without the songs. :jest:
*Just have to mention it: Holy Toledo, she was gorgeous!!
El Gato 12-02-2005, 05:19 PM Anyway, does it really matter? Mannequin's a bad movie (IMO, of course).

rw2516 12-02-2005, 06:26 PM I'm reminded of another ABC TV Movie of the week. THE LAST CHILD. In the future because of over population a law is passed you can only have one baby. The baby of this couple dies so she gets pregnant again(not allowed). They are on the run from the "population police" trying to get to Canada to have the baby. Ed Asner is the cop chasing them. Had Michael(Mod Squad)Cole in it. Looked it up at IMDB and it was directed by same guy who directed Night Stalker and Genesis II. John Llewellyn Moxey. Clicked on his name to see his credits. This guy was the king of tv movie directors. Also did Kung Fu and several horror ones I had never heard of.
