View Full Version : Tamiya R/C battle Tanks
BullFrog 11-29-2005, 07:08 AM Might as well start my own thread. Just started this about two months ago.I was told our club down here is the third largest in the country. So far we are battling every Sunday- weather permitting. The battlefield is located in the backyard with a river (real water), town, village and airfield area.If your interested in coming down let me know for directions.
Tanks are different than the cars I've been racing for years.Hop -up - hardly any just ball bearing in the tank wheels for the threads.Speed is not involved. I guess it's more like a live board game. You've got to learn how to operate the tank (sticks). You can fix the futaba or Airtronics radios for tanks (futaba is easier).
BullFrog 12-02-2005, 07:05 AM This Sunday we battle again. The other hobby, shop Harry's Hobbies got two of the Imex battle tanks in yesterday. We tried it out against my Tamaya but the laser systems were not interchangable? I wouldn't think there was a difference between laser lights? I think after the holdiays we'll have three battle area. One permanent and two portable. This a a great way to spend time away from R/C cars now if I could only drive a stick radio- better.
BullFrog 12-05-2005, 07:35 AM Grreat day yesterday. I was the last one standing against three Tiger 1's (I have a Pershing). MY turret got stuck and I was in the middle of our village.Almost took out one Tiger but... Also learned the slinghot menthod. It's harder to do with a Pershing. Much easier with a Sherman and Tiger.Even had some guys from Germany over (second time) just to watch. The Club is getting about one new tank a week.Maybe next week we'll get our full team together for the first time ( three : 2- pershings and 1 sherman).
jeep4x4 12-08-2005, 02:36 PM Sounds like fun. I used to live in Jacksonville, I'm sure it would have been something that I would have like to get into. Anyway got any pics of some of the tanks?
BullFrog 12-08-2005, 07:25 PM I don't have a digital camera to take pictures. You can go to the Tamiya site.Yes they are alot of fun- just like the car racing used to be here in Jacksonville in the beginning.Instead of tearing down the track we tear the battlefield down and store it for the following weekends battle.
BullFrog 12-10-2005, 04:29 PM Tank battle 12/10/05............
HookupsXXX4 12-11-2005, 10:58 AM Boy, tanks battles would be neat as hell!
I have seen that Tamaya puts on battles at the shows they put on. I like the idea of the town they use, and from the way it sounds, you have a killer place as well. Man, I bet that has to be cool.
What does it take money wise to get into them?
I don't know if it something I would do now, but maybe down the road. I am stepping out of the R/C racing world to build a model railroad. I have been in the R/C world on and off for the past 20 years, need something else to do. Man, this would be cool to do.
I'll be back to hear how it all go!

BullFrog 12-11-2005, 08:29 PM The Tamiya kits are expensive but after that you have most of everything you need. The Pershing is what I have and they go for about $600.00. A 4 channel radio _futaba the easiest. They take the stick and and the springs to the other stick control stick ( both are then spring loaded). You need this if your battling. We had a blast today for 3-4 hours.Nw we have afew weeks off for the holidays. I'm adding ball bearing to the drive wheels for the tracks. That's the only upgrade we can do ($37.00).You could also check Ebay for a used tank.
BullFrog 12-16-2005, 02:48 PM Well it looks like the next weekend we battle is the second weekend of January. This week it has been minor repairs and getting ready for battle. Also learning better ways to drive a stick radio.
BullFrog 12-24-2005, 09:46 AM Well anyone reading this I can give some advice on what not to do. I used Blue locite the way I usually do and that does not work on these plastic parts. It makes the plastic brittle and it breaks easy.So don't let any locite get on the plastic becasue it will become brittle and break.
BullFrog 01-10-2006, 02:08 PM The parts arrived last week and the tank is repaired. Now this weekend we have a redesigned battle ground to start the new year on. Can hardly wait, the tank has been fixed and only a small amount of detail stuff needs to be attached.Hopefully it will make it thru the weekends battle.
BullFrog 01-25-2006, 07:04 AM The new track design is great. We also switched starting times to allow people to go to church and battle latter. Starting time went from 9 am to the new time of 3pm. We even battled at night. The battlefield can be seen by going to Texasarmor.com/- go to r/c home I think and go to the bottom left side and click fourms. When you see the Cowboy look below and you'll see armornuts. Join Yahoo and look at the pictures from greg. You can only see the pictures if you join yahoo.
