A few of us were talking today about maybe having a 4-cell brushless only race. It could be held at a track in central Illinois on a Saturday evening. We thought if the brushless guys from Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, and maybe even Nebraska, would all show up at the same time, that we would get a pretty good turnout for just 1 class of brushless.
It was mentioned that we could run 19t and stock too,but if we offered both 19t and brushless that some guys that have both would only run 19t.
It was also brought up that if we limited it to just 4300 brushless that we could have awesome race with some of the best oval guys in the midwest.

Any thoughts?

I'm in. Just name the date and time. I'm sure that if there was enough publicity there would be a good turn out. Why not have a class for the 5800 and an open class also?

A few of us in Cincinnati are hooked on brushless, love the close racing. How about some details...where and when.
If any of you are interested, our track is sponsoring a Toys for Tots race Dec. 10th. Should be a good turnout and hopefully a few out of town brushless racers.

Mike, I think that is a great idea. No matter what format you use not everyone will be happy. I like the idea of just the 4300 brushless any speed control.

One problem might be finding an open date, that most can attend and a location that is large enough to handle what could be a large crowd.

Keep us posted.

Great Idea Mike Any time after the 1st of the year that does not conflict with Vinton you can count on myself, Ben And Nick to be there. Hope it can fall together, for another great race.

Really good idea mike, I know several guys from around here including myself would be interested if the dates worked out. I think IRP would be a great place to have an event like this.... Great facility, new carpet, plenty of room and the new owners are awesome. Also a somewhat central location for everyone. Just a thought, or maybe vinton?

Sounds like there would be a lot of interest for a race like this.

I was actually thinking about Allen's RC in Rochester Illinois, just outside of Springfield. He's about 3 hours from Trackside.

Any suggestions for race date? Looks like Dec. and Jan. are out. How about late February? Feb.25th? 2 weeks after Snowbirds.

That would work for us Mike, it falls between the 2 iroar dates and before the full mounth of march. Keep us posted when and were. AL

My thoughts exactly mike, Feb 25th(which i believe is a Saturday)

I would vote for IRP, if we can get mike and shane to add that as an oval date.

I would also keep it 4300motor only, make everyone run one huge class.

only problem is it seems indiana and michigan is all 5800 class..

AJS
11-28-2005, 07:15 PM
Mike, I think IRP as well, lots of pit area and the 25th works for the Iroar guys, maybe not Dubuque though, but most of the brushless guys have come from IROAR anyway.

After thinking about it more it's a SATURDAY so it doesn't interfere with Dubuque.

One other thought, maybe have it start early enough, that most of us can drive home after, which would save some money on Motels.

Good luck.

I doubt 2/25 would work at IRP it's the day before a traveling onroad event. I like the idea of IRP though.

it may seem like we run only 5800 but in reality we run the 4300 alot more than the 5800 mainly because most of the tracks aren't big enough to handle all the power of the 5800 but also alot of the stock class racers have moved into the 4300 class to get away from the motor hassels we also run 19t motors with the 5800 when we do run them so as not to exclude anybody the fast guys can handle either one but it alot easier on equipment with the 4300 another possibilty would be an open class with what you brung no matter what motor or speedo

4300 is the dominant class in mich and i bet there would be at least 5 from mich

Just an idea....

Why not run them all together, such as Lemans and so on?
5800 and 4300 run together, make the qualifiers 3 and 3 or 2 and 2.
Each racer determines what class they are, but everyone races together, making the fast 5800 guys use the driving skills they should have to maneuver around 4300, and 4300 drivers still competing with each other?!
I knwo its off the wall, but just a thought. This way you wont alienate a certian group of racers that may not have the 4300 rotor.

That is an idea, but if I wanted to go to a big race and all I needed was to buy a motor that I might use again, I would buy the motor. I hear you can pick them up for around $50-$65. Also, if don't want the motor after the race, I'm sure somebody would buy it.

I think we would have to stay with the 25th. I agree with AJ that we would start early enough to get everybody on their way sooner.

Mike sounds like a great idea. Feb 25th would be a good date.

I also think Allen's would be a much better choice. Short tracks are more fun and I would rather see this race at a track that supports oval racing on a weekly bases.

Thanks Sonny. I would like to see it at Allen's because he got all started with brushless.

I think Sonny rolled it at 135.

Just curious, MK Race says that Allens is 3 hours from Trackside???
Looks like a long haul, more than 3 hours!

Sonny B

Run line is 135 feet but wide enough to race on 8 car mains are not a problem. Drivers stand is elevated about 7 feet. Hobbyshop is well stocked with oval parts. Also the most important thing for oval racers, the food is really good.

Not sure of the exact time but Kevin Klyber just upped the brushless track record to 81 laps in 5 minutes.

Neil it's about 300 miles from Trackside or about 4 hours.

If there is enough interest I'm sure we could make it a two day show starting late afternoon on Saturday an ending mid day Sunday. Allowing everyone to drive in on Saturaday and be home at a decent time Sunday.

MK Race
11-29-2005, 12:41 AM
We can make to Trackside from St. Louis in 5-5 1/2 hours.St. Louis to Springfield is 2 hours. I talked to the guys in Springfield MO and they might be interested too. It would be a 5 hour trip for them to Allen's or a 7 hour trip to IRP. 7 hours might be too much for them and they might not go then. A 2 day race might be better. 4 hours to get there in the morning and 4 hours home for a 1 day race might make for a long day. With a 2 day race you can get more practice time too(AJ). :D

There are cheap motels close to the track.

Just a poll:

Date OK?

Location: Allen's or IRP?

1 day or 2 day?

Date :looks good, Location :Which ever is easier for you guys to set up: 1or 2 day 2 day would give more racing would be nice to get out on Sunday early though but either way count on it we will be there.

The date is perfect.

Irp or Allen's work well. Irp more pits and more parking. I like the track at Allen's, but if this race gets really big, which it might, I'm not sure if there would be enough pit area.

1 day or 2, only difference is costs for motels and food.

Just some ideas.

I think that date is the weekend before the Region 8 Carpet Oval Champs at Fastlane March 3,4,5th

Seems like a lot of oval races taking place in a 5 or 6 state region and the turnouts are getting smaller maybe we should plan races better, throwng oval races inbetween 2 Oval dates hurts both tracks and Oval turnouts are not getting any better, less races bigger turnouts. Looking at the Schedule on Sonnys thread that date is the only one open. Just trying to get good turnouts for everyone.

2006
Jan. 1 Dubuque R/C Dubuque, IA- 5th Annual ROC
Jan. 8 His & Hers Bloomington, IL 2nd Annual Big Blizzard
Jan. 14-15 World Of Hobbies Cincinnati, OH- Snowbirds Warm-UP
Feb. 7-12 Snowbirds Orlando, FL- 12th Annual Snowbird Nationals
Mar. 3-5 Fastlane Blue Springs, MO- Region 8 Oval Champs
Mar. 18-19 IROAR Vinton, IA- Spring Oval Challenge
Mar. 31-2 Hobbyplex Omaha, NE - Spring ????? Race

Shane, Just my 2 cents

Hi Shane.

We had planned to host a race at Allen’s on that weekend just like last year but had not yet announced it. I don’t think being the week before regional hurt the race at the Plex last year. In fact it may actually generate more interest.

I talked with Allen today and the race is a go. Mark your calenders for the weekend of February 25th and 26th. Sponsor details will be announced soon . For those concerned about pit area it should not be a problem, There is room for 65 to 70 in that main building and room for many more in the heated garage.

Brushless 4300 will be the main class,

If there is enough interest we would also run a modified class for the Novak 5800, 5.5 and 6.5 or Reedy N.E.O. One motors

Sonny, I'm all good with the race and I hope to make it, even though I can't seem to figure this brushless thing out.

I'm just looking at things as a big picture thing and trying to keep my track and Oval alive. Hobbyplex seems to get a good turnout no matter what and I don't know why other than it's a nice place to race but everyone else seems to suffer. I only had 42 cars for the grand nats race and hobbyplex had 90 for there oval race. I hope this does generate more intrest for the Regionals at Fastlane I am going to try to make it the best possible event for all to attend.
