View Full Version : Thanks Boss!
roadrner 11-19-2005, 08:45 PM Well, the camera made it home and here are the pix of Bosses custom Charger he made for me. Pix don't do it justice. Lowered, exhaust pipes, windows in the doors and look under the hood. Plus she's tubbed. Thanks again Phil. It has a special place in my case. Sorry, I broke off the side view mirrors when I took her out of the case, MDA. Don't think I want to put her on the track with any chance of you know what. Enjoy! :) rr
DACSIGNS 11-20-2005, 12:09 AM Hey RR-
Phil's a heck of a modeler eh? Here is the pic he sent me a while back of yer Charger before it was completed. I like the partially rolled-down windows and wing windows. Another great job by him, and it does demand a special place in yer collection.

WesJY 11-20-2005, 01:22 AM Oh man.. I'm drooling already!! i think i will try and make one! it looks soooo coool !!

T-jetjim 11-20-2005, 07:41 AM Wow nice job! I had to do a double take on this one. If it weren't for the pic of the underside, I thought that this was a model vs. a slot car.

joez870 11-20-2005, 10:36 AM Yo, RR, If you are not going to put it on the track, would you trade it to me for a custom HW diecast? I wanna see it GO! (I think you really want to see it go, too, buddy)
Phil does it again and again and again!!! Removable hood, big mil, pipes, tubs, real windows, road-huggy, custom paint, perfect painted details....*sigh*...the HOURS!....we should all aspire to this level of tiny modeling! RR, you are one lucky S.O.B! Phil must really like you alot! :) So tell me, Where exactly do you keep it?

Took it for a spin last night. Definitely a cruiser and not a racer. Didn't do bad, need to work on the JL chassis to get some more power out of it. As far as where I keep her, under lock and key now. rr
boss9 11-20-2005, 11:42 PM Hello Gents-
First off RR, I believe you are the one who deserves the thanks here.:)
Let’s face it, it’s no secret you are one of the most generous guys on Hobby Talk. You’re always ready to offer up your help in just about any situation, and you reply to almost every post on this forum with kudos for the respective builders.
I think I speak for everyone here when I say thank you!
If I may, let me point out a few details that "The Man of the Hour" didn’t elaborate on—
The engine came from a DC and is a “real” 440cu. Mopar
The blower from a 63 Impala
The inner fender panels came from a 40 Ford and the brake booster from a 39 Chev’, along with the blower drive belt from an Anglia. These were all larger scale (1/24th) parts I’d modified. The same with the (deleted) outside mirrors—they are the big ends of the Anglia front shocks.
The Super Bee (I know it wasn’t an option of Chargers until 71) decals were copied from an original Parts window sticker I pinched from a Dodge dealer in the early 70’s. Along with this, the wife also graciously made up some personalized license plates for the front and rear.
The paint addition was the original “Metalflake” brand 1/1 car paint from the 60’s. The colour is a factory mix of Sapphire blue and Purple indigo.
I’ll have to go along with you RR on the pics. It's definitely a different deal in person.
Speaking on this, I had emailed Hank for permission to use of the HT logo and such, and he’d asked me when the pics are posted to let him know so he could see and comment on the box art. Could you accommodate him?
One last thing RR—I value yours and the others opinion very highly. Not just for the comps’, but also for input on which areas I can work on to hone my skills and improve my building techniques. This goes for everyone here—I can only get better if Mates like you tell where and what areas to work harder on.
Of course, I build these for my own enjoyment, but it's a real bonus when others find enjoyment in them also.:)
Right! It’s on to the two other board members cars I’d promised a build for. You know who you are, and I haven’t forgot. Neither of you posted here, but I know who you are!
Thanks so much RR, for allowing me the opportunity to build this for you and the fact that you actually like it! It was a labor of friendship, for sure.
Cheers!
1scalevolvo 11-21-2005, 12:39 AM  Saw your work ! Your Charger is FANTASTIC ! Could not have done better myself !

coach61 11-22-2005, 11:40 PM Hey RR, Any chance of a few more detail shots of this real CUSTOM, it a one of a kind and I would love to see more of the details and not more pics of some manufactored blobs.
:p

roadrner 11-23-2005, 06:57 AM Here's a couple more shots that i was able to fit on the board. Two show the homemade boxart that Boss had applied to the JL Cube. The LO-MO tag is the interior placard that the car sits on inside the cube and the other shows the base label that's affixed to the front base panel of the cube. Enjoy. rr
AfxToo 11-23-2005, 07:52 AM Talk about going the extra mile... I'll never cease to be impressed with the creativity and artistic talent of some of our fellow board members, like the Boss man.
jack0fall 11-23-2005, 10:07 AM  It is truely amazing to see such craftsmanship.
And I agree with AFXTOO, the people here are the most generous in many different ways. I am glad that I found this little piece of "heaven".
