View Full Version : New England Oval Tour
rickster58 11-16-2005, 11:18 AM I was wondering how many guys would be interested in participating in an oval tour that involved all the major tracks in New England. This is just an idea that I have. We could have a joint agreement between all the participating tracks to determine a schedule, fee, prizes, and points calculation. It could involve one race every 4-6 weeks depending on availability. Use a points system like NASCAR uses for the cup races. Classes could be determined after sign up is established. Perhaps Stock, 19 T, and SK? Maybe even Mod. The schedule could be worked around the normal operation days of the participating tracks so that they still can run races without too much loss do to the tour.
Now of course this means competing business' would have to work together. But if we truly want to save the sport it has to be just that, a sport, with cooperation between the owners of thre tracks. It would be nice if we could get some sponorship for the race program from RIP, ORC, Putnam, RC4Less, Hyperform, etc etc.
As for the discussion of banked vs flat... every guy I know has a car set up for each. Just like NASCAR, some are flat some are not. I think it makes for more interesting racing. What do you all think?

bud3738 11-16-2005, 12:21 PM I would....Im sure others would....I think Sat. would be the best day...I know many other tracks run thier weekly programs on Sundays..
PUF19 11-16-2005, 12:53 PM I already have one started Rick, NEOT will be the series name
NORTH EAST OVAL TOUR. once a month at a different track, I just need to contact the tracks, and get a few sponsors on board.
more info to come shortly...
Nick
bud3738 11-16-2005, 02:16 PM alright Nick....Looking forward to it..............
rickster58 11-16-2005, 02:27 PM Nick,
That's fine. I hadn't at this point heard anything about it. The other thing is that it has to involve the track owners, and be organized and supervised by someone.
Rick<><
abdule 11-16-2005, 07:41 PM it's great to have another racing leauge, but the least you could do is come up with you own name for the series. The term "ORL" has been and still is the Brain child of Bill Henning. I'm not saying that we have the lock on using "ORL",all I'm saying is come up with a name for your leauge that would indentify your area. Thank you, George Mease :hat:
jbm38 11-18-2005, 01:28 AM I already have one started Rick, ORLNE will be the series name
OUTLAW RACING LEAGUE NORTH EAST. once a month at a different track, I just need to contact the tracks, and get a few sponsors on board.
more info to come shortly...
Nick
Nick,
Will your ORLNE be an extension of Mr. Hennings ORL? If so that would be great the possibilities of different tour races to attend and even a shootout between the 2 would be interesting. Hope to see more information soon on your NE tour.
PUF19 11-18-2005, 11:14 AM I talked with Bill @ the Marshall's race he was the one that gave me the Idea.
and Marshall's will be on our tour, for the same race.
rickster58 11-18-2005, 11:42 AM Nick,
The whole purpose of doing a New England tour was to include tracks local to "New England" .There are plenty of organized events that reach far and wide. What I want to do is organize something in the Mass, CT, NH, ME, area. I know some go all the way out to Marshalls but this is not intended to be a sleepover type event. Something you can drive to, race and then return home. Mostly to bolster racing in "our" area.
Rick Stcokhaus<><
ps: If you're at K&N tonight, we can talk more.
rickster58 11-18-2005, 11:44 AM hrump mispelled my own last name :freak:

bud3738 11-18-2005, 03:53 PM I like the variety Nick......And if set on Sat.'s shouldnt hurt the weekly racing of a particular track..A touring series....Great idea
RTOURANGEAU 11-18-2005, 04:37 PM There are 2 tracks in Vermont that might be interested in the series
Barretown R/C Speedway, Barre Vermont, banked oval www.barrerc.com (http://www.barrerc.com/)
R/C Toybox, St Johnsbury Vermont, Flat oval and road course, www.rctoybox.com (http://www.rctoybox.com)

bologna 11-18-2005, 05:40 PM looks good to me nick your really getting the ball rolling up there...
the way it looks some of us orl guys might be able to run 4 or 5 of your races along with or orl races.. lots of fun to come
and rick rember you have 3 drops so if you feel a track is to far just use it as a drop thats what i do when or tour goes to delaware...
keep us pa boys informed and nick if you build it they will come and i like that the last race is on the banks as of now
abdule 11-18-2005, 05:51 PM The only problem Bill Henning has is with the use of his "ORL" logo.It is a little to close to the original. Imitation is good, but there is nothing like the original! You could call it anything that you want but the use of "ORL" should be left to Bill...........maybe you should contact Bill at " bill @billhenning.com ". It was his concern that has prompted this post. :hat:
PUF19 11-18-2005, 07:17 PM ok renamed the series, North East Oval Tour
bologna 11-18-2005, 08:18 PM nick look on the team board on you site and nextel me when you can to talk some smack :dude:
SHADOW 11-19-2005, 12:52 AM Hey Nick you might want to take to Bill Marshall about running Sat night instead of Sun on the asphalt. Track gets faster at night and there's nothing better than under the lights.
jbm38 11-19-2005, 01:24 AM Looks great so far. Sounds like it will be another great series for racers.
Maximus Raceway 11-19-2005, 02:50 AM Rick the tour will look like this, !!!!NO DATES FINAL YET!!!
this is really not ready yet, but you can see a bit of it now

Nick,
Nice job. I know it will not be easy, but try and get with me early on the race dates.
More then happy to help you make this happen.

ovalrc 11-19-2005, 12:48 PM July at Marshall's means asphalt racing, I've always wanted to run that track. I'll have to see what our schedule looks like to see if I can make that one. April to Septmber is our racing season, ties me up every Saturday, but I'll make the races that I can.
whats the rules going to be for all the classes!!!! im looking to run the sk mod class and friends are going to run stock pan car & maybe mod pan car.. we are going to race most of the races as we are from new jersey
rickster58 11-21-2005, 09:51 PM Nick,
I looked at your proposed schedule and it looks nice. The only thing is out of 10 races all but 2 are on Sundays. You may want to rethink that, and go with a combination of Fridays and Saturdays. This shouldn't be something that will hurt business at all the participating tracks. If a large crowd follows this schedule all the business' will be empty except the one or two times the tour stops at their home track. That's not a good thing.

:freak:
PUF19 11-21-2005, 10:09 PM What has not been explained is that this is done to UP attendance at already on going shows, IE sept Maximus SOS race, april K&N Spring Slizzler, and so on.
again the dates ARE NOT RIGHT, just the months....
As for rules we will be using the same rules as the ORL series. They will be posted soon.
Nick
rickster58 11-25-2005, 09:52 AM Pufferbelly did you get my message about the FM Tx module?
Rick<><
PUF19 11-25-2005, 11:14 AM wallslamer I did get your message, not interested in selling the module
Nick
rickster58 11-25-2005, 11:14 AM No prob dude!
the rules for 2006 changed for the orl and we as a group were hoping to see the rules that were stated first (stock,19t& poss. mod pan car, w/nascar bodies).... the sk cars are not on the orl series.. so those rules would need to be stated asap so some people can get what will be needed to race the entire season ordered.. thank you
rickster58 11-26-2005, 10:51 PM Nick,
What will the results of the series be? Trophies, cash, ribbons etc?
Rick<><
run for trophies @ the end of the year, but just my 2 cents
PUF19 11-28-2005, 12:20 AM shooting for trohpies, prizes, and maybe more depending on the crowds....
rickster58 12-01-2005, 06:22 PM Your website hasn't been working today. Was wondering when all this (season) is going to happen?
Rick<><
PUF19 12-01-2005, 07:43 PM site is working fine...not much there at this time....

Mr.fastman 12-01-2005, 07:45 PM Sounds like fun to me, when do things get going.

PUF19 12-02-2005, 11:48 AM SK are included, just have not got the rules for them yet.
RCRacer00 12-02-2005, 01:33 PM Nic, just for your info: the classes you have listed, PRO LITES 1/12 4 cell 19T.
Under the rules section you have for motors---27T stock....Just wanted to point it out.
PUF19 12-02-2005, 03:58 PM Jr81, can you email me about the SK class, I need some info on what you guys are running now. simadmin@earthlink.net
Thanks
rickster58 12-04-2005, 02:37 PM Nick,
Have you secured the dates with all the tracks. I would hope that you are going to change most of them to Saturdays and Fridays. Other wise it'll only hurt business for the participating tracks.
Rick<><
oldtimer 12-06-2005, 06:29 PM  Come on guy,s don't let this tread die .We need all the input so we can make this happen. I know that there are a lot of guy,s in the northeast that would like a chance to race on this series. So step rt up and make it happen. Thanks Old timer
RCRacer00 12-06-2005, 09:54 PM I think you should look into adding a couple more tracks, to eliminate doubles at some of the tracks, how about the track in Barre VT, or Lakes Region RC in Gilford NH, Barre VT is a slightly banked track and looking for business to stay open check the websites for contact info: Barre VT= Barrerc.com and LRRC is= lakesregionrc.com Just trying to help. I'd like to see this idea take off. Maybe even for a on-road series at some point....
RCRacer00 12-06-2005, 10:35 PM Just found another NewEngland track you could add RC Toy Box in St. Johnsbury VT. I think the website was toybox.com or rctoybox.com. Just a suggestion.
PUF19 12-06-2005, 11:09 PM I have been to barre a few times, fun place good people, and St. johnsbury looks awesome, but we are trying to keep the drive time to 3hrs max.
Barre is 4hrs and St johns is 5+hrs. not to say that for the next season it could happen. I have to look into lakes region.
Nick
RCRacer00 12-20-2005, 02:24 PM Any recent updates with the tour? Or have things been put on backburner due to holidays?
PUF19 12-27-2005, 01:45 PM ok the dates are set, all the tracks have been contacted, things are looking good.
http://www.nicks-simworld.com/NEOT
Nick
bud3738 12-27-2005, 03:11 PM Looks good so Far Nick........One question though...I would figure the tracks would want all Sat. dates so not to interfere with there weekly events........
PUF19 12-27-2005, 04:39 PM these dates are correct now, 2 are pending. it is a nice mix of sat/sun
it is not easy to accomidate everyone, but that is what I am trying to do.
some tracks run other classes on certian days, and only run oval on certian days.
Nick
NHRCRACER 12-27-2005, 04:39 PM I'm really looking forward to this series. I hope the SK guys want to run it.
PUF19 12-27-2005, 04:44 PM the only problem with Sk as I see it now is; you all need to come to some sort of rules as far as cells, and chassis.
