Besides slots, I enjoy a good sci-fi or horror movie. That is how this piece came about.
As a lad, I recall seeing the movie Mighty Joe-Young and I thought the stop-motion animation was fantastic. I still think it rivals some of today’s computer-generated films.
I decided to replicate a scene of the movie where Joe, after being inebriated by to two drunks and led to escape by his female master and her boyfriend. They put him in the back of a truck and sped away. A chase ensues with the cops and Tipsy Joe shakes his fist angrily at the pursuers and almost falls out of the truck. I loved that.
I started with a Willys and cut it 2/3rds. I folded over the roof, sanded and formed it to match up with what was now a cab. I cut up a Euro Satyr lorry and claimed the back end for this conversion. I added mud flaps and a yellow windshield for more of the old-time look, but the Willys’ nose still stood out too much. I cut the grill front open and fitted a Kaiser one in its place, then installed a front bumper below that. I used flat acrylics for the body and trim. I detailed with cast iron paint, black wash and silver. The Ape came from an animal jungle bag my girls picked up at the dollar shop. To fit inside the rear, he received a broken hip and back, and a twisted arm. He was painfully painted and detailed a bit.

I like how it turned out and now have two things to enjoy about it.
It was a fun build and the hardest part was finding a little scale simian.
Cheers..
