SACRAMENTO - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger took full responsibility Thursday for the ``failure'' of the special election and said he had heard the voters' message to get things done in Sacramento.

In his first extended remarks since voters rejected all four of his special-election measures, along with everything else on Tuesday's ballot, the governor was both humble and self-effacing. He said he needed to learn how to be more patient. Asked what he would do differently, he made a joke at his own expense.

``If I would do another Terminator movie, I would have Terminator travel back in time to tell Arnold not to have a special election,'' he said to much laughter. ``I should have also listened to my wife, who said to me, `Don't do this.' ''

I give Arnold an 'A' for trying to be more than just another politician. Most of them wouldn't even try bucking the status quo.

I wish he were my Governor, but we have a pretender in the Statehouse over in Olympia.

I think Arnold should Terminate the voters. What were they thinking?
I heard one of the four proposals was to reduce the budget.
Imagine that! A governmental body that would spend less!
It's as if he said to the people, "I'd like to take less of the money
you earn; you keep it." And they said, "No way! Keep gouging us!!
More taxes!!"

Voter turnout in LA and Orange County was beyond pathetic.

Those who oppose Arnold's effort don't want government spending to go down. They want more people to shell out for their idiotic programs under the label of "compassion".

The most compassionate thing you can do for someone is to remove the shackles of excessive taxation and allow them to take care of themselves so that other people don't have to. Then, there will be money available to help those that truly need it, instead of those who chose the path of laziness and subsidy.

California has money problems, plain and simple. But the proposals Arnold offered were not the correct solutions to these problems. They would have allowed certain government officials unchecked power to do whatever they deemed "necessary" with the state budget, while trouncing many "blue-collar workers" (such as teachers, nurses, firefighters, police officers, etc.) in the process. So Arnold's proposals might have solved a few current problems, but they would have created numerous new problems for the state.
